Crips

The origin of the word Crip has not been identified yet. Gang specialist do believe that the "Crips" were looking for the hardest and toughest thing imaginable and they came up with Superman. The only thing that could hurt Superman was Kryptonite. They shortened it up and got Crip. Another theory is that it is simply an acronym and stands for Community Revolution in Progress. And along with this second theory, there is a second meaning on why this gang was developed. It is also said that Crips were created to protect the neighborhood against other criminal street gangs.

The Crips originated in southern Los Angeles, California, around 16. The gang was predominately black and Hispanic members that formed to take control of the drug trade that was happening in this community. The Crips chose blue to be the color of display for their gang. This color is usually shown on accessories such as hats, handkerchiefs, shoelaces, and belts. In select areas black, brown, and purple are also accepted as Crip colors.

Around 180 this gang started to spread rapidly throughout the United States trying to become nationwide. This gang wanted to focus on drug control and to be the strongest, toughest gang out there. The Crips would do virtually anything to make this happen. As the expansion of this gang occurred, they formed different "sets." For example there is now the LA crips, San Diego crips, Compton crips, East Coast crips, and etc… There are currently over 00 different crip sets in the United States. They spread from the West coast to the East coast, from Texas to Minnesota. Each set is one gang in its own. They all are an alliance of one big gang that is called the Crips. These gangs usually settled in the larger cities. Within these gangs there are usually anywhere from 0 to 5 people involved in a set. There is known to be as many as 0 sets in large cities such as Los Angeles. The gang members usually range between the ages of 15 to 5, however there are younger and older gang members. It is said to be that the most violent gang members are 15 to 18 years of age and this age group makes up the majority of the gang population.

To become a member of this gang you have to prove your loyalty or show that you are willing to give your life for and to the gang. This is accomplished by the leaders of the gang ordering the new prospects to commit crimes, physically assault the prospect, making them play Russian roulette, or in some other way risk their life for the gang. One of the most common initiation rituals is what they call walking the line. This is where the prospect stands between two sides of current gang members and has to walk a certain distance while being beaten on and his/her knees cannot touch the ground before the get to the predetermined distance. The prospect's hands are tied behind their back so they cannot fight back. If his/her knees do touch the ground then they either start over or beat the prospect worse.

The Crips are an extremely powerful and violent gang. The Crips spread as deep as inside prisons. The Crips don't just deal with drug control now. They deal with stolen merchandise, they steal merchandise, they heist cars, they beat people down for money, and they steal and sell guns. The Crips will try to destroy anything or anyone who stands in their way of doing whatever activities they want to do.

Members of this gang are loyal to each other. They cover each other's backs. If a Crip from New York goes to Los Angeles and gets into some kind of trouble the Crips from Los Angeles will help out the Crip from New York. The gang has graffiti, hand signs, specific tattoos, and specific words that are used nationwide to show their affiliation with Crip brotherhood. Crips usually refer to each other as "cuzz" and give each other nicknames or street names such as T-loc or C-bone. The Crip's big rival gang is the Bloods. You'll see a lot of Crips use the initial BK in graffiti or tattooed on their bodies standing for Blood Killer. Graffiti usually consists of future or past gang activity but never current. Hardcore Crips will never use the letter "b" in any of their words probably due to the fact that their rival gang's name starts with a "b."

Overall Crip gang activity has been on a rise for the past few years but has leveled off as of recently. As the police agencies become more effective in their means of taking gang members off the streets, the prisons become their new "stomping grounds" giving the prison employees a handful. As laws stiffen on gang activity, the sneakier gang members become. Today's society is not immune to gang activity. Gang members are in high schools and in colleges. They live in just about every neighborhood and interact with everyday society. The law enforcement community has to work harder and harder to keep up with the gang activity. I believe that gang activity will always be a part of our everyday lives.

During the 180s, several Crip gangs (and Bloods) developed in a Central American Country known as Belize (formerly British Honduras). These gangsters migrated heavily to the United States during the late 180s, especially throughout the West Coast and East Coast States like New York, New Jersey, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. In 18, several large Belizean families arrived in New York in the neighborhood of Harlem. The youth from these families, and some adults, were members of the Crips Gang in Belize. They created the Harlem Mafia Crips in New York City and helped establish several other Crip gangs such as the Rolling 0s Crips, Hoover Crips and Rolling 60s Crips by 15. During the late 10s, Crip gangs were well established in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and other East Coast regions.

The main enemy of the Crip gang is another gang called the Bloods. They are an equally vicious gang. They have similar philosophies as the crips and many of the customs of the gangs are the same too. However, they cannot stand each other and many times there are gang fights between these two gangs resulting in a lot of violence and death.

The police of most states are tired of all this fighting. They want to get rid of these gangs but find it tough to do so. They are getting more and more strict, passing different laws and even going under cover in order to control this problem.

With money you can always get anything! (Spiegelman, 74) Some man would be as strong as cow, but no one can survive without enough water and food. Germans do not follow any policy, and they killed and gas anyone they grab. Vladek and Anja survived because they were one of the richest Jews. Therefore, surviving from Holocaust does not depend on the physical strength; it is about those Jews who could pay high price to bribe the authorities, and to buy the excess necessities.

The Jews who survived well at the beginning of the Holocaust, needed not only the power in the community, but also cash to buy food. The more connection a Jew could pull together, the more chance that they live well. The cold-blooded Germans gave food coupons to Jews, which is not even enough to feed a dog. Jews survived buy food and necessities from the black market. Vladek recalled, When first I came home it looked exactly so as before I went away¦each of us gets coupons for 8 ounces of bread a day, and a tiny bit of margarine, sugar and jam per week. That's all! So how do we manage? (Father-in-law) donated a lot to the Gemeinde-the Jewish Community Organization-and Wolfe works there¦so we get a little extra. And there's the black market. With money you can always get anything! (74) The amount of food Germans gave to Jews is not enough for one breakfast today. In the beginning of the Jewish tragedy, while many already starved to death, Vladek's family was still living in a somewhat wealthy style. Many Jews may be willing to sacrifice anything to exchange for life. Unfortunately, ones without money to start with probably do not get the chance because many starved to death. The twelve living with the Father-In-Law, were able to keep their house at beginning, and as millionaire, the family have more than enough money to buy a lot more excess food from the black market.

However, minor excess cash may not be enough to live. Soldiers like Vladek, who escaped home successfully, needed even more excess cash to purchase a legal work card. Otherwise, ones sent to Auschwitz camp right away. At that time, coming home safely is not safe. Soldiers must find a way to stay home legally or to avoid been sent to Auschwitz. Just like some others, Vladek came home safely without a proper piece of paper to live. Truly, money talks because it can now also buy a piece of paper that safe Vladek's life. When Vladek was almost caught without a work card, his Father-in-law said, Come¦we'll visit a friend of mine who owns a tin shop. I think his overseer can be bribed. More money put Vladek in an even better situation, the man who gave Vladek the card told, Okay. Vladek¦since we make things for Germany we can get you a priority work card. (78) Not every soldier was fortunate and was rich as Vladek. Jews must not just have some extra, but need to have a lot of extra in pockets. Vladek, who had a lot of Jewelries, had enough extra to buy some black market bread, but not everyone can have that much excess to buy a priority work card. This must be worked through not just little bribe, but a lot.

Furthermore, more years into war, the one thing ones hear most often is if you can pay. The conversation stops if the answer is no. There were times Vladek asked for places to stay, as always he would get, She has a small farm on the outskirts of two¦she might take you in, if you can pay. (1) This is not about how practical people are to each other. Money is what people ask for to survive. There are trade off for risk and money. Ones were serious at a point that you cannot even give a penny less for survival kit. There was one time that Vladek, I paid also for the food what she gave to us from her smuggling business. But, one time I missed a few coins to the bread¦ Understandably, Mrs. Motonowa answered, Sorry¦I wasn't able to find any bread today. (14) Credibility does not work in war time. Especially during Holocaust, no one could predict the next step that Germans would take.

Cheap Custom Essays on Survival of the Richest

Moreover, it took Vladek a gold watch to have his own blood-related cousin to save his life from the edge of being sent to Auschwitz. During the critical point of people life, it no longer matter if people are related. Jewelry or other cash equivalents are few things that have left for people help each other out. Basically you got to have more than a lot to by a service. Vladek and Anja were at the edge of been sent to Auschwitz. Again, if you are still rich at this point you can buy your life back. When Vladek seek help from his cousin, the instance response he got was, Vladek?! There's nothing I can do! (114) Not just harsh and mean. But it's obvious to see how people are cold-blood at that time. Vladek understood the message, he responded, I made signs to show I could pay. Suddenly, they are cousins again. His cousin shouted, Okay. Don't worry! Haskel will come help you! Artie asked the question that we all doubt, Wouldn't they have helped you even if you couldn't pay? I mean, you were from the same family¦ Vladek reacted, Hah! You don't understand¦ (114) In that period, there's no such thing as relatives. No one had time or life to risk on anybody. Vladek's cousin sends rescue sign after he sees the sign. In common sense, ones might believe that the same family would each other out. That would be very wrong in the case of Jews, who tried to survive. Would ones now argue for the fact that connection can save life, maybe not anymore.

Nevertheless, at this point of war time, ones really have to be very rich to bribe to escape to a free country. Years through the war, sources were used up. People hear ways to escape, but it is not something you can say it and do it. Ones must have a lot to pay in order to escape. Vladek described, The Smugglers proposed us how they would do¦Whew-it's risky and very expensive! (150) Money is still the same topic ones surrounded. There's no work for ones to work and live. The qualification to survive at this point is to start rich at beginning.Accordingly, only the richest people lived.

Most of Hemingway's heroes are loners, operating outside the context of family, community, country or the past. Their successes are not victories over hostile forces, but demonstrations, even in defeat, of courage, which Hemingway once defined as "grace under pressure." The old man exemplifies Hemingways ideal of exhibiting grace under pressure, as he refuses to submit to the overwhelming obstacles presented by the sea. Santiagos attitude seems to be that although he is faced with tragedy -- he will not cease struggling. It is clear that in, The Old Man and the Sea, Santiago demonstrates "grace under pressure" during the eighty-fourth and eighty-fifth day, having to deal with the loss of his fishing companion and with catching the marlin, the three-day struggle on the sea with the great fish, and the final victory, and at the same time the loss of the marlin.

He shows that he is under pressure because he has gone eighty-four days now without catching a fish. In the first forty days, a boy was with him. But after forty days without a fish, the boy's parents had told him that he would have to fish in other boats. Due to this, he's lost his fishing companion, Manolin, due to his unluckiness. Manolin wants to go with him, seeing as the boat he was on, caught three big fish that week, and now he has money. Santiago feels pressured, yet tells the boy that, "If you were my boy I'd take you out and gamble," he said. "But you are your father's and your mother's and you are in a lucky boat." (pg.1), even though he knows what he truly wants is the boy going with him. He goes out to sea on the eighty-fifth day, and sits patiently in his skiff, awaiting a fish to take his hook. Suddenly, he feels a bite on his line. Remaining calm and focused, he talks to the fish, "Eat it a little more," he said, "eat it well." "Eat it so that the point of the hook goes into your heart and kills you, he thought. Come up easy and let me put the harpoon into you. All right. Are you ready? Have you been long enough at table?" (pg44). Santiago shows grace and experience as he quickly reacts to catching the fish, doing everything he can to keep the fish hooked, and preparing himself for what he knew was to come.

Santiago shows "grace under pressure" during his three day struggle with the great fish. As Santiago and his skiff are being towed, the fish was calm and steady. Santiago takes advantage of this time to get some well-needed sleep. As he rested though, Santiago held onto the line, tight in his right hand, passed the line somewhat lower on his shoulders, bracing it with his left hand. Suddenly, Santiago was awakened with a jerk. "The line went out and out but it was slowing now and was making the fish earn every inch." (pg. 8). Santiago estimated that the great fish was two feet longer than the skiff. The run of the huge marlin caused the line to tear into the flesh of Santiago's hands. But, determined, Santiago refused to give up. He tells his hand, "You did not do so badly for something worthless," he said to his left hand. "But there was a moment when I could not find you." (pg.85). He knows that he needs to eat to keep up his strength, yet at the same time, he's feeling the pressure knowing that if he eats more of the dolphin, he would become nauseated. But what is better for him? Being nauseated or light-headed? Being under pressure, he thinks of the other flying fish which is cleaned and ready to eat, and calls himself stupid for not thinking of it earlier. In addition, during his battle with the great fish, the old man recalls an arm-wrestling match that he finally won after an entire day of ferocious battling. These thoughts give him the strength to endure the vicious trials of his three-day confrontation with the great fish.

"It is a very big circle," he said. "But he is circling." "He is making the far part of his circle now," he said. I must hold all I can, he thought. The strain will shorten his circle each time. Perhaps in an hour I will see him. Now I must convince him and then I must kill him." (pg.86-87). He's feeling the pressure as he's patiently waiting for the marlin to stop circling, to begin his defeat. "I could not fail myself and die on a fish like this," he said, "now that I have him so beautifully, God help me endure." (pg.87). On the next turn, Santiago almost had him. Over and over the marlin righted himself and slowly swam away. Thinking aloud, he said "You are killing me fish. But you have a right to. Never have I seen a greater or more beautiful, or a calmer or a more noble thing than you." (pg.). Despite Santiago's loyalty to the great fish, it was time to defeat him. He was feeling the pressure due to the fact that he felt faint and sick and he couldn't even see well. Santiago dropped the line, stepped on it to secure it, "lifted the harpoon as high as he could and drove it down with all his strength." (pg. ). He had his fortune, the marlin. He traveled with the marlin for three days, trying to fight the off all the sharks and hold onto his catch. He felt the pressure knowing also that he was limited to a certain few of tools to help him along the way.

Write my Essay on Grace Under Pressure for me

This is the story of the old, Cuban fisherman, who was down on his luck, a courageous, skillfully talented fisherman, who conducted himself admirably and with nobility, with "grace under pressure." He is also a simple man who loves the sea for all it has given him and deeply respects the great fish; his worthy, noble, and beautiful adversary. Even though only his marlins carcass is left by the end of the story, Santiago may be considered victorious because he never quit, valiantly fighting off the sharks until there was nothing left to fight for. His supreme ordeal an agonizing battle with a great marlin, illustrates courage in the face of defeat, and personal triumph defeat through loss.

"Joaquin says to Mark, "I can show you how to carry the pain". Does Joaquin succeed in doing this?

Joaquin, as Elena's grandfather, comes to New York to help Mark face the ordeal that he has been through and to help him deal with his trauma. Joaquin is the best form of psychiatrist for Mark because he has helped others in Mark's situation and he has also had to "carry the pain" throughout his own life. Elena doesn't understand that pain cannot simply be erased, that it must be death with and faced and carried throughout life. Through Joaquin helping Mark let go of Colin and his "guilt of the survivor", he must also acknowledge the guilt that he himself feels then teach Mark the process of carrying the pain, and not letting it dominate or ruin your life. They both go through a journey and a process that starts with Marks initial experience in Kurdistan.

Mark developed his deep trauma when war, with which he felt he was truly immune and "separate" from, became personal. When "their feet fell from under them" on the hilltop in Kurdistan, Mark realises the true effects of war and the feeling of helplessness. He feels guilty over not being able to save his best friend Colin's life. He feels guilty because he is relieved to be alive and guilty that he felt relieved when the massive weight of Colin slipped off his back. In the Harir cave Talzani asks Mark, "It's not so easy without your camera?" and the question is true for Mark, who has never been personally connected to a war experience, but always by a camera that can distance "oneself from one's surroundings". Mark's father, an ex-Marine, says to Mark that was "never stops affecting you". Mark felt "besieged, gripped by a loneliness deeper than any he had known" and he doesn't know how to deal with his trauma. He becomes "out-of-sync" and distant from his emotions, emulating those around him. Joaquin's treatment helps this.

His initial treatment seems useless to Mark. He asks Mark to conversationally tell of his war stories and experiences. Mark tells of the "boy in Beirut", the "cadets", and the bone-collecting woman. Joaquin realises that Mark still deeply carries the pain and his guilt of living through all these experiences and still be alive. He realises that Mark is obsessed with the dead and what happens to them, and Joaquin tells him "forget the dead. It is the survivors who are important…lost…left to wander alone", actually talking about Mark. Joaquin learns that the bane of Marks sorrows is that of Colin's death and that Colin is still with Mark. Joaquin wants to help mark find a way back to normal and therefore live normally and with the pain. He wants Mark to accept responsibility and confess what truly happened in Kurdistan. But Mark holds it within himself until finally he is ready to accept responsibility and accept that "war is random" and any more deliberation is "self torture". Joaquin wants Mark to accept and forgive himself.

Help with essay on "Joaquin says to Mark, "I can show you how to carry the pain". Does Joaquin succeed in doing this?

By travelling to Spain and helping Mark, Joaquin is also forced to forgive himself. He has had to carry his pain with him throughout his entire life. He has lost his family, his granddaughter, and according to her, his morality all because of war and this still traumatises him. He, however, can function normally and react to life and live with this trauma, where as mark cannot. For Joaquin, his major sense of holding pain is that of guilt over Carlos Perez's death. At the Morales' institute, Joaquin helped soldiers who had "done terrible things" by forgiving them, allowing them to repent their sins and therefore feel "purified" and able to go back into society. Some, however, had consciences and felt trapped by their guilt and pain. Joaquin was forced to become "the killer of killers" because it was the humane thing to do. "Pain is the most private thing in the world" and no once can be rid of it instantly but there are ways of dealing with it. Joaquin feels deep emotional pain knowing that he killed "normal men" who became "beasts", but he realises, through helping Mark and therefore himself, that it was a necessary action that resulted in other lives being saved.

Elena does not understand that mark cannot simple deal with his pain and return back to being normal, and she judges him harshly and thins lowly of him when he could see his friend die and not tell anyone the truth. She doesn't realise that "war is an aesthetic…it is with peace time that we feel pain". Joaquin, through the process that he takes Mark through, helps Elena to understand that Mark needs her support and forgiveness. As her mother tells her "You need to learn forgiveness" as Joaquin also helps her to forgive him and understand his true motives for working under Franco's regime. Elena learns that war is emotionally and psychologically crippling and that all victims' carry their pain with them, and the process and treatment Joaquin is using to treat Mark is helping.

Joaquin's treatment of Mark enables all three main characters to forgive and accept pain. Mark is taught to live with his pain, not let it dominate his life, but still function with it. In the final chapter, when Joaquin realises that the only way for Mark to accept, forgive and find his way back from the dead' is for Joaquin to relinquish his own secret and confess about the "unmentionables". Mark then finally confesses about Colin's death and he expresses the feelings he underwent and the guilt he lived through bereaved. Because of Joaquin's treatment and being taught how to 'carry the pain" Mark feels normal again and can once again think of the future. He learns that Colin's death was not his fault, nor is he responsible for death and its effects.

As I walked through the doors of the beginning of my high school year, I realized that very moment, I am about to deal with many obstacles that will try to separate me from my goals. Through much turbulence and interventions that I have faced to achieve many of my ambitions; I have developed into a stronger individual. Throughout my family, none of my six brothers and sisters had ever graduated from high school, and I know since I am the last daughter; my goal is to graduate high school with at least a 4.0 as my grade point average and become a role model for other people. Having my goals already set in advance shows my determination to succeed in life.

Towards the end of my ninth grade year, one of the numerous obstacles that I had to face was finding out that I was sick with something that doctors did not even know what I had. He said that my stomach was processing some type of bacteria that was not supposed to be there. So he said that maybe it was best if they wash out my stomach by sticking a tube down my throat and clean the inside of my stomach. After that procedure, he said that it will not come back again. Soon later, about one month, my stomach started to hurt. My parents took me back to the hospital and the doctor said that the bacteria came back again. They did not know what to do so they just gave me tons of medicine, therefore, they could figure out what to do. Not only did I begin to lose confidence in myself, but I started to fall in to a deep depression. I begin to not care about my school work as I once did and started to daydream in class. My grades were dropping for the semester and I didn't even bother to care. On top of that, I, always hearing my parents fight over the medical bills did not help. I kept thinking to myself how everything was perfect but now everything falling apart so fast, and I can not stop it. Three months later, my doctor called, he told us to come to the hospital. My parents and I raced to the hospital and the doctor said to us, "There is a chance that we can make you become better. I reviewed your x-rays and I think that the best way is to go into your stomach and make a surgical removal." At that moment, the drive that had kept me going before had return. Of course I was scared, but knowing what all my parents had done for me, gave me confidence and endurance. Then we went home, I dug through my trash can and pulled out my grade point average report that I got. On there, I read… GPA .6 RANK 7. I knew I could have done better than that, so from then on, I began working extremely harder.

During the summer, I went to my friend's birthday party and I met some amazing people, or so I thought. Around 11, I began to see people drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. The image that I saw from those people just shattered like a robber breaking a glass window. That image faded into a black and white scene and, me, the only colored one at the party. Then a group of people pulled me in, and offered me a smoke. More images popped in my head! My whole life flashed before my eyes, and I saw myself dead, in a coffin. I began to wonder why some people would just destroy everything they had work hard for just to end their life's. I walked away and out through the door. I called my mom to come pick me up and told her what happened.

The beginning of my tenth grade year, I thought to myself that life could not be better than this. My grades were getting better; my family was understanding, my involvements with the school, and I was getting closer to a friend, Katie, that I just met in scouts. One day, after scouts, all the members decided to go eat out at IHOP, and I asked Katie to come along. At first, she did not want to, but I begged her to go. We got there and everyone ordered, but she said that she was not hungry. I did not think much about it, until it began to happen MORE frequently! I got really concerned, and decided that I should go talk to her. After one of our scout meeting, I asked her if something was wrong, and she said that nothing was wrong. But I could see the lies in her eyes because she could not look straight into mine. I told her what I thought was going on and she began to yell at me for not minding my own business. Then her dad came and she took off. I got really worried and apprehensive. I thought that the best thing to do was to talk to someone about it. So I went to our school LIGHT councilor and told her about the situation. She helped me out, said that I should talk to Katie's parents, and she would help me. When Katie found out what I had done; she got furious and did not even want to talk to me. Even though I was hurt that she was mad at me; I knew I did the right thing and this shows that I know how to handle things in rough situations.

The end of first semester, the school was passing out the update on rankings and grade point averages again. I was tremendously excited yet frantically scared at the same time! The moment of truth, the moment I find out how well I did will pay off at this time. I was handed my report, and a tingling chill went through every part of my body. I opened it up… RANK 50, GPA .8. I was shocked! Not only did I go up spots but I was closer to my goal! I knew that second semester I would need to work even harder to get it up to a 4.0 and I was determined too!

Towards the end of tenth grade, I ran for student council secretary. I thought that this would be a great position for me because I am a organize person, and willing to work. Plus, I wanted to become a role model for other students and I thought this was the best way to do so. The week of campaigning, and sure enough, it was a bad election. Students were ripping flyers down of the people they did not like, and spitting on them like it was their right to do so. Finally, the end of that week, the old student council officers made their announcement to whom that won. When, they said my name, I was exceptionally excited! I screamed and jumped up and down! It was a moment I could not forgot. I could not wait for next year to come so that I could start another chapter in my life.

Through so much instability, confusion, and commotions that I have conquered; such as balancing my grades, part time jobs, extra curricular activities and my personal life. The lessons I have learned has taught me to move through life with dedication, determination, and confidence. With those qualities, I will be able to achieve many more goals that I have set for myself during and after college.

College. It screams freedom. You plan and prepare for months and make decisions that will affect the rest of your life. You pack your room up and move it hundreds of miles from your controlling parents. This is it; freedom at last. No more curfews, no more rules, no more high school "mystery meat" day, and no more boring hometown. No need to worry about money, there's plenty of it. Your parents are going to help pay for your living expenses and your scholarship and loan will get you through the tuition and fees. Everything will be perfect.

The first week or so after moving into your new territory, be it a dorm or apartment, you realize how uneasy it feels to be away from the familiarities of your life before the move. You start to miss the little things. You wish that the ceiling fan made the same rattling noise that your fan at home made. You wish you were able to here the crickets outside at night instead of noisy neighbors or roommates.

College can be a fun and exciting part of your life. But fun and excitement usually cost money. You have to pay for movie tickets, the late runs to White Castle, snacks, soda, and all the extras you want to decorate your new place with. Money is hard to come by in college. You spend most of your day in classes and if your parents have decided to not give you lots of money, you spend most nights working part-time. Working while attending school is not fun at all. It leaves you with little time to study or get homework done. And the little time you have is usually in the early hours of the morning, depending on how late you stay up. But you have to work in order to buy the things you want and to be able to eat out instead of eating the dorm food.

Another thing college can do to a person is separate them from a boyfriend or girlfriend. Imagine spending every night with a person while you were in high school and then up and leaving one day. Sure there are weekends to spend together, but not when you have to work most weekends. Late night phone conversations are about all that keeps you together. It gets tough being apart from someone you love, and someone who loves you. When you are finally free from working on a weekend, you still spend your time together knowing that when Sunday comes around, it's back to being alone again. Your partner heads back to the town you once both shared. You spend the week not knowing where your partner is, whom they are with, and what they are doing. And the same goes for your partner. They are unaware of your actions as well. Trust must be present in a relationship for it to survive college.

In college you are free to make most of your decisions without your parents interfering. But what seem to happen anyway is that you find yourself following your parents' rules anyway. Sure you stay out late a few times, but you learn quickly that the schoolwork doesn't get done and you end up earning bad grades, just like your mother said you would. So you really aren't free at all. You just have to listen to a different type of discipline now, your own. You have to be the boss of yourself in college. If you are unable to accomplish this task, you will probably end up dropping out of college. While on the other hand if you do accomplish this, you will most likely succeed.
