Last week, I couldn't believe that Shannon (my friend) called me "lazy because I used the Internet to research my history (king Arthur) paper instead of going to the library as "normal" people like to do. Then, when she received a better grade on the research essay that Dr. Smith had assigned, I decided that she might be right; perhaps I was lazy. If she got a better grade, then the library must have something to offer. So on my last history paper, I went to the library. Call me "lazy any day, but I will never use the library again! After that paper, Ive come to realize that good grade or not, researching on the Internet will always be the better choice. Most students will agree with me when I say that the Internet is preferable because of its convenience, organization, and accessibility.

I woke up Saturday at noon and headed to the nearest library ten minutes from my house. To my amazement, all the books I looked up in the card catalog were not available at that particular branch. The librarian told me to head to the downtown library. I scowled and said, Thats way too far, but I had no choice because I needed research materials. By that time, the sun was high and

beating down on everything. I entered my hot car, complaining to myself the whole way there. As I walked through the doors of the Lincoln Library, I sighed. It is a maze with six floors of shelves. I would have to go on a tedious search for information. I started at the card catalog and wrote down a long list of books about history and where they were located. I had to search four different floors and 5 books for all of my choices, lugging the heavy books with me. Later, at home, when I started writing my works cited page, I could not find the sheet of paper that included all of the information from the card catalog. Sadly, I had to make the long trip back to the library to retrieve the book information for my paper. When I arrived at the library a second time, it was closed! The window read, Library Hours 7 a.m. to p.m. On weekdays, I work every night until 10 p.m. How was I supposed to get the information I needed? I usually write my research papers after I get home from work, staying up until o'clock in the morning. The night before this paper was due, I was struggling to meet the four pages requirement with the little information I found at the library.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on INTERNET Vs LIBRARY

When I finished the poor paper, I collapsed on the bed. The computer across the room called my attention. Like Cheshire cat it was maliciously smirking and saying, You could have used me. The computer was right. Internet researching would have been much more convenient than going to the library. First, I would have saved gas by avoiding the long drive downtown. Moreover, I could have stayed in the comfort of my cool air-conditioned house

Desai-

instead of running around under the hot sun. If I had stayed home to search the web, there are many search engines such as Yahoo!, AOL Search, and Ask Jeeves. All I would have had to do was type in my topic, history, and the search engine would have given me a list of articles found on the Internet. I would have had a variety of choices written by people all over the world. Plus, I could have saved the web site addresses in a file on the computer to retrieve in the future. I wouldnt have lost information that I would later need. I could have found the same information from the big, book-filled library with a few clicks of my mouse. In addition, by using the Internet, I would have had no restrictions on time. The Internet has no closing hours or holidays. I could have researched anything at any time of the day because articles are available 4/7 on the Internet. I could have worked as I pleased, on my own time, not waiting for the library to open.

As you can see, the old-fashioned way of researching in a library just doesn't fit my style. Im a modern person who keeps up with the times. New technology is made to better our lives. The Internet is convenient, organized, and accessible. So yes, I am lazy when it comes to finding the better and faster way to research. By the way, I didnt get a lower grade on my last history paper because I researched on the Internet; I got a lower grade because I had a lot of grammar mistakes.

Thorton Wilder's play Our Town is about a typical lifestyle of a small town life. In the story he links the similarities of two families, the Webb and Gibbs family. Wilder wrote the play in way to show people that even the smallest events in our daily life has great values. This paper will gives examples of how Wilder showed values in regular events but first we must justified what small events are. The smallest events in daily life is really in the eye of the person examining the event, for example a promotion to one person can be a milestone that persons life while to somebody else it is just everyday events that takes place over time. So small events are actually equivalent to a milestone depending on a persons opinion.

The first example to be brought up is when Dr. Gibbs talk with Joe Crowell Jr. fine doc I never think about it at all. Only like you said, it always tells me when it's going to rain. said Joe What's it telling you today? Going' to rain? said Dr.Gibbs No, sir saids Joe ¦.. knee ever make a mistake? ask Dr. Gibbs No sir replied Joe. This is a daily conversation which is the smallest event in daily life. The values it holds is this boy at first never being wrong about the weather end up never being wrong and graduates head of every class he takes. This conversation is the foundation of the Joe which is now a paper boy that becomes a smart guy and later just dies at war. This conversation will be important to Dr. Gibbs later because he knew this boy who died in war. To Joe Crowell after he dies he will remember the times when he studied to be a waste and remember the conversation when he enjoyed life.

Another example in which Wilder shows value in daily event is When George and Emily talk to each other from their windows. Yeah Emily, what do you think? We might work out a kinda telegraph from your window to mine; and once in a while your could give me a kinda hint or two about one of those algebra problems. I don't mean the answers, Emily of course not¦. Just some little hint¦. Said George Oh I think hints are allowed¦. George you whistle to me and ¦. Emily replied. This conversation is ordinary but has values to what will happen in the future. When George ask if he can ask Emily for help on homework, it serve as a reason for George to chat with Emily regularly and so they got the chance to know each other, then love each other and eventually gets marry.

Small event are gateways to important milestones in life.

Buy cheap Our Town term paper

The next example is when George invites Emily for an ice cream. This event holds value because this is the time period in which Emily started not to like George because of his time is being spent in baseball. They have ice cream and talk it about the fault of George and college. When they talk he decides not to go to college because of Emily, so when George invites Emily for ice cream it was like fixing all the problems Emily had about George and it kept George from leaving for college in the future.

The last example Wilder shows value in daily event is when George is Mrs. Gibbs talk about him getting married and how George will always visit her on Thursday night. This has great value, in the future the family will spend time on Thursdays and so the family bond will stay strong and they will always take care of each other.

There that was the four example that I found to show how Wilder succeeds in his attempt to show value of daily life.

For those who are familiar with it, Punk Rock is a popular style of music because it allows for more freedom than the mainstream genres. Lyrically, artists of this genre can express themselves without fear of being criticized for their radical ideas. Also, most punk rock bands are on independent, widely unknown labels. This is a benefit in that they do not have to worry about how their image or behavior affects the image of their label, as do artists on major labels such as Sony or Warner Brothers. Another advantage of punk rock is that the artists are free to musically try new things and explore new styles. Similarly, since the birth of Mtv is the 180s, pop music has seemed to move in a direction which favors pretty faces over talent, this is not true for punk rock. Finally, many people would prefer the intimate setting of a punk rock show to the massive stadium concerts of a more mainstream artist. Because they are not seen on tv or played on the radio, punk rock bands rely on fans to share music they enjoy with other people and the relationship that is formed, and the appreciation from the bands, gives punk rock a whole new aspect that might not be enjoyed in other genres.

We all saw how recently many pop or country artist who expressed unfavorable political views were condemned for voicing these opinions. However, artists like the Clash, Anti-flag, Propaghandi, Bad Religion, and others have been expressing political and social oppositions for years, free from media backlash. Controversy is the essence of punk rock. The movement was started by bands like the New York Dolls and the Sex Pistols, in the late 170s, with a conscious effort to go against the norm. More than a musical style, punk rock is a vehicle for artists to express opinions, question authority, and challenge listeners to think for themselves.

Since its birth, punk rock has developed in multiple directions. Because they have so much creative freedom, artists continue to musically reinvent the genre. With more popular genres, there is pressure to write music that will sell the most records, leading artist to write music similar to that which has been popular in the past. So many terrible carbon copied bands saturate the airwaves, manufactured by record labels trying to capitalize on trends and fads. Weary listeners may find relief in the fresh, ever changing punk rock scene. From the Pixies, to the Misfits, to Saves the Day, the punk rock genre offers a wide spectrum of musical and lyrical styles. Divided into countless sub-genres such as emo, hardcore, ska, pop-punk, etc., punk rock offers music for every taste.

When you look at the popular artists off today, you have to wonder how many of them would be famous if they were not so physically attractive. It makes no sense that people would listen to someones music because of the way they look, but that is the current trend. The pop music industry knows this, that is why they created Milli Vanilli in the Eighties, and why they manufacture boy bands today. Punk rock has not yet felt the wrath of the Mtv generation and still favors creativity and talent over tight bodies and skimpy outfits. However, punk rock music does have its sex appeal, apparent in the Distillers Brody Armstrong, Vice Squads Beki Bondage, and Bouncing Souls Greg Attonito.

Cheap University Papers on Punk Rock - an informative essay

Finally, the intimate settings of punk rock shows offers the intimacy and personal connections that over-crowded concerts can not. Smaller audiences allow for more interaction and more of a connection between artists and fans, without having to pay exorbitant amounts of money for front row tickets. Punk rock fans have the opportunity to witness the development of infant bands from their local scene as they gain world wide recognition. Also, without the benefit of radio and television this growth is facilitated almost entirely by the fans. The fans recognize this and feel a connection to the bands they helped make popular, and the bands recognize this and show the appreciation for their fans.

Although other genres of music all have their advantages, punk rock music allows freedom that the other, more popular genres can not. Whether or not you are a fan of this particular genre, you have to appreciate the musical creativity and refreshing lyrical freedom that punk rock offers. In the late 180s and early 10s many people thought this genre was dead, but it has continued to grow and develop in the underground scenes and the garages of aspiring musicians. Although these artists may never gain the recognition of the general public, or substantial financial gains, they continue to play the music that they love. Everyday another young person is enlightened to the world of punk rock music, ensuring that this genre will be around for years to come.

Robert Cormier writes pessimistic novels shown in the novel "We All Fall Down" where it deals with pessimistic themes. The definition of "pessimistic" is "emphasising the negative aspects of a situation, expecting unpleasant endings". The arguments that could be put forth to prove the novel deals with pessimistic themes is the Alcoholism, Power and Peer Group, the character Buddy Walker's Love for Jane Jerome and the language where it was written in a police style report.

The theme Alcoholism that is dealt with by Buddy Walker in his escape from reality through the family problems he has been having and the trashing. Buddy uses the booze as a way of avoiding the problems he will face. This is seen when his family started having problems the to the divorce of his parents, buddy takes on drinking as a way of "provided the escape " he needed from the situation he was in. after the trashing, buddy feels that the damages he had caused was devastating and drinks to his guilt. The way Cormier has put the theme alcoholism in a pessimistic way by using alcohol as a way of avoiding the matter and not dealing with the responsibilite4s one must face.

Power and the peer group is a strong theme in the novel as the outcome is if you "fall down", redeem yourself and not let the peer group get you down. As everybody has fallen down by the power of persuasion, but it is about the way you pick yourself up and rise above the peer group as you have the power to do so. Buddy is show to be pessimistic as he is lead by the mob mentality towards the trashing through the power Harry Flowers has upon him.

Guilt is another theme in the novel, which Cormier has put forth in the novel to show the theme pessimistic. Jane Jerome deals with guilt after she finds her sister Karen Jerome battled and bruised and left in a coma from the workings of the trashers. Jane she feels guilt on the night before she had a argument with her sister Karen, and feels that if they hadn't had an argument that Karen will not be the one lying on a bed in a coma in a hospital. Jane looked a t the situation of her sister in a negative perspective and she feel its her fault that what had happen to Karen and not knowing that there could be anybody in hospital as Karen was at the wrong place at the wrong time or if the trashing never happened it will even be a better outcome.

Buy custom we all fall down term paper

Another person that deals with guilt is buddy walker he knew he shouldn't trashed the Jerome's home, he knew what he was doing was wrong as he questioned himself "Harry was Frankenstein, but I'm not a monster, or is that what all monsters say?" this shows buddy's guilt towards the trashing of the Jerome's home. This has lead buddy to be a alcoholic as he try to avoid reality, as it provided the means of escaping reality. Buddy tries to apologise to Jane but hasn't got the guts and only manages to say, "I'm sorry" but Jane not knowing who was it from. He's way of dealing with guilt is by spying on Jane, this is pessimistic, as a normal person will not go through what turmoil has experienced. As a normal person will have the courage to take the responsibility and will not feel guilt for their own actions

The language which Cormier has written the novel at the beginning is a police style report where "They entered the house at 0pm on the evening of April Fools Day". The purpose of using police style reports is an objective language where it is the complete description of the trashing" they shit on the floors and pissed on the walls and trashed their way through the seven cap cod cottage". What is pessimistic about this police style report is that it is written negatively towards the housing saying that such a beautiful house could have such damages done to it ' there were four of them.. their vandalism was scattered and spontaneous… and invaded every room in the houses damaging everything the touched".

The character Buddy Walker is the epitome of pessimistic; this is evident in his relationship with Jane Jerome. Buddy thinks that his relationship with Jane is a ticking time bomb as he does not no when Karen Jerome will wake up from her coma and identify Buddy as one of the trashers that trashed their house and brutally injured her. Whenever Jane would mention about the trashing or about Karen, Buddy would change the subject avoiding what horror would unfold. If only Buddy had confessed and explained to Jane about the trashing and taken up the responsibility for his actions, maybe the outcome of the novel would have been different, maybe Jane would of forgave Buddy. But Buddy had been pessimistic about the situation thinking that Jane would never forgave Buddy for what damages he had caused.

I chanced upon a BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) radio production of the story, "Tales of Narnia The Magician's Nephew" after a lazy Sunday siesta in the year 188. Like any 11-year-old kid, I was enchanted by the "Chronicles of Narnia" series that I looked forward to the following episodes with zeal, until all seven stories of the series came to a close many months later! At that time, there were numerous words that I was unable to comprehend, although I had constantly achieved high grades in my spelling tests; I pondered on this 'inadequacy' and finally, I concluded that I needed to work at my major weakness in mastering the English language, which was simply writing! And I never look back since besides accumulating a wealth of vocabulary, I started diary-writing and reading my tales periodically. To supplement my fluency in writing, I began reading the local English newspaper, "The Straits Times" at least twice a week. Months later, I was delighted that my essay marks rose dramatically!

My second experience appeared somewhat materialistic. In order to win attractive prizes from the Bookworm Club, I submitted many articles to the "Bookworm Digest" editorial team every month; short stories used to be my forte. Initially, I was disappointed (naturally) as none of my articles landed me a prize. Thus, I visited the school library frequently and read more fiction books than I usually did. To expedite my writing process, I discarded my basic dictionary and replaced it with an advanced one. Unfortunately, my best efforts only secured me a consolation prize at the end of my primary school days; but by then I already considered myself to be proficient in my writing skills.

The twin experiences I mentioned above were truly memorable - they have made me confident in translating my thoughts into writing with minimal effort. Hence, I enjoy writing (and reading) so much that I sometimes pen poems in my personal letters and electronic mails. I also detest 'lazy writing', other than writing common acronyms, such as unintelligible SMS (Short Message Service) vocabulary and incessant language mixing.

I learnt that the apparent simple process from thinking to writing involved other competencies, such as listening, speaking and reading (Cox 00). Thus it is natural to assume that writing and the other linguistic competencies are intricately linked - one can rarely excel in one aspect without doing so in the others.

Buy cheap Introduction to writing term paper

My primary school English teachers imprinted the what-I-considered as 'traditional methods of writing' onto me. Spelling tests were primarily conducted to avoid pesky spelling mistakes, nothing more. Before deciding on a topic to write on, there must firstly be sufficient contents in my mind and secondly, proper composition planning (Cox 00). I should also be mindful of the minimum word length; it also seemed to be the case of 'the more words there are, the merrier'. Regarding the comments from my teachers, they were often clichd and short - much to my frustration as I relied heavily on them to enhance my writing skills. I feel that teachers need to replace vague commentary and references to abstract rules and principles with text-specific strategies, directions, guidelines, and recommendations (Zamel 185).

I hope to impart the skill of effective writing to all my students with the same vigour that I have had enjoyed! To me, writing is predominantly associated with the writer's imagination and self-expression. To crank up my students' creative juices, I will urge them firstly to read as widely as possible, so as to heighten their self-awareness of the vast world around them. The second aspect of effective writing stems from the mundane use of the English language in our daily lives - fine writers must be able to converse in standard English. I do not ignore the technicalities of writing, but I wish to emphasize this to my students regardless of the amount of red ink spilled on their graded essays, technicialities are not the most important thing in writing; instead, a holistic feel is what it really matters to any marker (Zamel 185). I will hold conferences with pupils during writing workshops so as to guide them through the decision-making process before they start writing their compositions (Cox 00). Last but not least, I shall list my comments pertaining to my students' works as accurately as I can, so that their future assignments will, hopefully, surpass their last ones.

Tony Blairs not on his way out, but its not clear where hes going

THERES something rather thrilling about watching Tony Blair on form. There he is, facing his partys annual conference, bloodied by the failure to find any Iraqi weapons of mass destruction, the corrosive effect of the Hutton Inquiry and the wars messy aftermath; with Labour traditionalists who oppose his market-oriented policies out to pull his domestic agenda apart; with the press announcing his imminent replacement by his ambitious chancellor of the exchequer, Gordon Brown. And yet his brilliant showmans sense catches the audiences mood with a speech that is bruised, touched with humility, but above all defiant. He is unrepentant about Iraq and apparently determined not to give an inch of ground on his domestic agenda to his critics. I have no reverse gear, he said. Most of the audience loved it, though the metaphor doesnt bear too much consideration as a BBC commentator pointed out afterwards, if you are on the edge of a cliff, a reverse gear is quite useful.

Still, displays of bravado do not answer the fundamental question. Is Mr Blair now so damaged that he is no longer an asset to his party, but a liability? The trust of the electorate is hard to earn and easy to lose. If poll after poll is to be believed--according to an NOP poll this week (see chart, above), nearly two-thirds of voters believe he lied to them over Iraq--the prime minister has forfeited it. Some people think that this loss of moral stature will, and should, bring Mr Blairs political career to an end.

Going nowhere

Write my Essay on tony blair's leadership for me

It wont and it shouldnt. While Mr Blair--arguably Labours most successful leader ever--deserves criticism for the way the government presented its case for war with Iraq, there is no evidence that he lied. For all the obsessive interest in the minutiae of September 00s dossier on Iraqi capabilities and intentions, nothing has emerged to suggest that Mr Blairs belief in the threat posed by Saddam Hussein was anything other than heartfelt. Whether or not it was right to fight the war remains a matter of judgment. But although hindsight shows how the prime minister might have done some things differently and better, his sincerity should not be in question.

This is crucial for Mr Blair. For all the passionate opposition to the war among some Labour Party activists, even those who think that he made a terrible mistake appear ready to concede that at least he thought he was doing the right thing, and that he thought he had good grounds for that belief. Mr Blairs explanation in his speech to the conference of his decision to go to war was listened to with respect, understanding and even some applause. His reception overall, culminating in a seven-minute standing ovation at the end of a speech in which he had not ducked any of the difficult issues, was a deliberate message to the outside world. The Labour Party still wants Mr Blair to be its leader and will not allow him to be destroyed over Iraq. His achievement is to have made Labour feel for the first time in its 10-year history that it can be the natural party of government and it is sufficiently grateful for that not to desert him in his hour of need.

None of which means that the prime ministers recent difficulties are at an end. Mr Blair remains at odds with much of his party and the trade unions over his plans for public services. In particular, he still faces intense opposition to his efforts to give hospitals some independence from bureaucrats, within the National Health Service. A motion opposing these foundation hospitals was passed at the conference. That wont make any difference to government policy; but a possible Commons defeat over its plans to charge students some of the costs of a university education certainly would.

In the course of his speech, Mr Blair talked about the need for a government half way through its second term of office, and with every prospect of achieving a third term, to find the resources to renew itself. If that means more of what Mr Blair says he believes in, it will mean more competition between providers in health and education; looser Whitehall control on pretty much everything that goes on in the public sector, including greater powers for local government to raise money and decide what to do with it; an end to the centralisation of public-sector pay which means that teachers in expensive London get paid pretty much the same as teachers in western Scotland. Such changes would do the country a lot of good, and be fiercely resisted by the party and the unions.

Here lies Mr Blairs difficulty. Although the Labour Party made it clear this week that it is happy for him to be its leader, it has made it equally clear that it is unwilling to go where he wants to go. He says hes not reversing. The Labour Party doesnt want to go forward. Unless he can resolve that problem, Britain is not likely to go anywhere.

What have you learnt about "The Institution and Individual Experience" from your study of the text, Dear America?

An institution is defined as either an organisation for the advancement of a particular purpose, or as any established law or custom in a particular culture. The texts, Dear America, composed by Bill Coutrie, Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, and Pink Floyd's song, "The Wall", expose many things about the individual's experience with "the institution", from the positive effects of some institutions, to the overwhelmingly negative effects of the majority of institutions and institutional practice.

Based on a book of the same name, Dear America was commissioned by the New York Veterans Memorial Commission. This fact informs the purpose and influences the perspective of the text Dear America decries the effect of institutional policy and power, with the individual portrayed very much as a victim of the institution. It is clearly a text that communicates its information, ideas, attitudes and belief systems in a way very specific to a particular area of society- it clearly adopts a sympathetic attitude towards American soldiers in Vietnam.

Dear America is a compilation of the letters of certain American soldiers who fought in Vietnam, together with images including photographs of soldiers who died after writing their letters home, footage, newsreel footage from war correspondents, newspaper headlines and excerpts from television coverage of politicians and protestors at home. The film documents the experiences of American soldiers at war, at the same time portraying the change in public opinion towards American involvement in the war, with anti-war sentiment growing as the war progressed.

Cheap University Papers on Dear America

The film claims to be a documentary the opening sequence of the film features a split screen divided between a photograph of a young man in uniform and a slow-rolling textual accompaniment which reads "Every scene, every shot in the film is real. Nothing has been re-enacted". Coutrie makes a claim for total truthfulness, reinforced by the honour-roll of actors who are thanked by the producers not for acting, but for "bringing these letters to life". The audience is positioned to sympathise with the American soldiers by matching actor's voices (reading real letters) with actual footage of American soldiers throughout the film. The addition of actors' voices to the photographs or footage causes the letter-writers to become almost "characters" in the film.

The happiness and sense of purpose of the young American soldiers filmed playing on a beach in Vietnam in the following sequences of the film is reflected in the voice-over and music- "Under the Boardwalk". The war seems to be a rightful war. This initial euphoria- the idealised, positive images of Vietnam which may have existed at the beginning of the war- is contrasted with the wartime reality of ever-imminent death which is exposed as the film progresses.

As the film unfolds, the human cost is measured in statistics to each year's end, and the initial euphoria and excitement changes to disillusionment. The scene cuts directly to graphic images of "soldiers at work", manning machine guns as helicopters strafe the jungle below. The soundtrack changes to Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" which decries the cost of patriotism Some folks are born to wave the flag/Ooh they're red, white and blue/ And when the band plays "hail to the chief"/ Ooh they point the canon at you". This lyric highlights the idea that the cost of patriotism in war is not paid by "senator's sons" but by ordinary folk. The visuals focus on images of injured and dead soldiers being saved or retrieved by their comrades. The scene then cuts to a well-groomed news reporter, representative of institutional power, who clinically, and in well-modulated tones, details the extent of American casualties. Those who have died are statistics. The sympathies of the responders are directed towards the soldiers against the faceless institutional powers who determine their fates. The film continues in this way using carefully constructed montages, interspersing "real" soundtrack (bullets, helicopters, etc.) with the music of the era overlain by "acted" readings of letters and mixing in actual footage of GIs with newsreel footage and commentary, to manipulate the audience's response. The responder becomes aware of the profoundly negative effect of institutional policies on the individual.

The film further presents itself as an accurate historical narrative with the use of subtitles which appear at the bottom of the screen at regular intervals. The viewer is informed of the historical progress of the war. The most consistent means of doing this is the regular "head count" which rises dramatically as the film unfolds. These subtitles are carefully juxtaposed with the letter-readings and footage which chart the emotional or personal progress of the war.

Euthanasia is based on the idea of compassion and is the committing of an act or the omission of an act that will result in death. Active euthanasia in an act that directly causes death. Passive euthanasia is the non-performance of an act that causes death. The American Medical Association's rules allow a physician to practice passive euthanasia but not active euthanasia. In James Rachel's paper "Active and Passive Euthanasia", Rachel's arguments concerning active and passive euthanasia disagree with the American Medical Association's view. The main premise of Rachel's paper is there are no moral differences in passive and active euthanasia. Therefore, in a situation where passive euthanasia is acceptable, active euthanasia should be acceptable.

Rachel's first argument is that passive euthanasia is not more moral than active euthanasia, and may actually be considered less moral. This is based on the premise that the decision of euthanasia for the patient has been made. Rachel does not argue the morality of euthanasia, only the type. Rachel states that active euthanasia, having a quicker outcome of death, causes less pain and suffering. Passive euthanasia can be slower and more painful and therefore crueler to the patient, thus leaving active euthanasia the more humane and moral choice.

The second argument is based on Rachel's assumption that passive euthanasia decisions may be based on irrelevant grounds and leads to decisions that are not made based on equal logic. The example Rachel gives is the withholding of food from a baby born with Down's syndrome and an intestinal obstruction. Rachel states that the Down's syndrome should be irrelevant when making a decision of euthanasia for the baby. Some parents will chose passive euthanasia, and the withholding of life saving surgery, based on their logic of a diminished quality of life for the child because of the Down's syndrome. Other parents will choose to have the surgery for their baby based on their concept of quality of life.

Rachel questions whether letting someone die is worse than killing someone or is there no difference in the morality of active and passive euthanasia. The example given discusses whether there is a difference in the morality in watching a child drown in a bathtub and not helping save the child (passive) or holding the child's head under the water in the bathtub and causing the child to drown (active). If the withholding of help to a dying patient is acceptable according to The American Medical Association, then Rachel states the person watching the child drown should have a defense they played no role in the drowning of the child, they only omitted giving help. Rachel disagrees with the American Medical Association and says this is not a defense, thus concluding there are no moral differences in withholding help and actively participating in the death.

Custom Essays on Euthanasia

One of the weaknesses of Rachel's argument is that his basic premise is based on an incorrect argument. He argues that there is no moral difference in letting someone die and in performing active euthanasia. Active euthanasia is the participation in the killing of the patient. The active act of killing someone is worse than permitting the patient to die. Therefore there are more moral conflicts in the active act versus the passive omission. Rachel would argue against this weakness with the child drowning in the tub example. Both the behaviors in the drowning example were reprehensible and one is not worse that the other.

Another weakness in Rachel's arguments is that the cause of death is not an issue. With active euthanasia, the doctor is actually killing the patient. In passive euthanasia, the disease is killing the patient. Rachel's rebuttal would be the cause of death is not as important as the good done by the euthanasia. The active killing of the patient by the physician is not wrong if the outcome is better for the patient than the traditional American Medical Association's approach of passivity.

After the decision is made to participate in euthanasia, Rachel reasons that active euthanasia should be as acceptable, if not more so, that passive euthanasia. The patient should be able to determine the method of euthanasia and not the physician. Rachel makes a case that if the American Medical Society permits passive euthanasia, then active euthanasia should be permitted as well. There are weaknesses in Rachel's reasoning that lend support to the American Medical Society's position that physicians may only participate in euthanasia by omission. Intent cannot be separated from the act. Our culture holds human life as sacred and considers the intentional killing of a person, except in defense of another human life, as wrong. The consequences of active participation in the death have more serious consequences as seen by the incarceration of Dr. Kevorkian for his participation in active euthanasia. Our society is still examining the morality of euthanasia. In general, if someone accepts the idea of euthanasia, passive euthanasia is generally acceptable for our society.

Mesh Topology

In this type of network setup devices are connected with many redundant interconnections between network nodes. In a true mesh topology every node has a connection to every other node in the network. An advantage of this type of topology lies in the fact that it is relatively immune to bottlenecks and channel/mode failures. Allowing data to be rerouted around failed or busy nodes does this. A major disadvantage is high cost due to the high number of interconnections.

Bus Topology

All devices are connected to a central cable, termed a bus or backbone. At each end of this cable is a terminating resistor, or a terminator. A signal gets passed back and forth between workstations and between the terminators. An advantage of this type of topology is that if one workstation fails, it does not affect the entire LAN. Another advantage is that it is easy to implement and cost efficient. A disadvantage to this type of topology is that it a connection to one of the workstations becomes loose, or a cable breaks, the entire cable segment loses connectivity.

Do my essay on Network Topologies CHEAP !

Ring Topology

All devices are connected to one another in the shape of a closed loop so that each device is connected directly to two other devices, one on the either side of it. In most cases data flow is in one direction only, with one single node receiving the transmission and relaying it to the next node. The advantage of this topology is that it is rarely subjected to the bottlenecks associated with hierarchical and star configurations. One disadvantage is that a single channel connects all nodes. If a channel fails between two nodes the entire network is lost.

Star Topology

All devices are connected to a central hub. Nodes communicate across the network by passing data through the hub. This topology uses signal splitters in the hub to send out signals in different directions on the cable connections. The advantages to this type of topology are that star topology based hubs can be connected together to extend the network, it is easy to add new workstations, and management and monitoring is not difficult to do. Disadvantages to this system lie in with the hub; if it fails the workstations connected to the hub lose connectivity.

Ethernet

Ethernet is a local-area network (LAN) architecture developed by Xerox Corporation in cooperation with DEC and Intel in 176. Ethernet uses a bus or star topology and supports data transfer rates of 10 mbps. The Ethernet specification served as the basis for the IEEE 80. standard, which specifies the physical and lower software layers. Ethernet uses the CSMA/CD access method to handle simultaneous demands. It is one the most widely implemented and used LAN standards. 100Base-T (Fast Ethernet) supports data transfer rates of 100 Mbps. Gigabit Ethernet supports data rates of 1 gig per second. Ethernets are easy to design and manage and aren't too costly to implement. Disadvantages lie in the different topologies supported and their individual nuisances.

Token Ring

A token-ring network is a type of network in which all of the computers are arranged in a circle. The token, which is a special bit pattern, travels around the circle. To send a message, a computer catches the token, attaches a message to it, and then lets it continue to travel around the network. Workstations are connected centrally to a Media Access Unit (MAU) and are wired in a star configuration. Advantages of a token-ring network are that cable failures affect only a small number of users, there is equal access for all workstations and limited performance degradation as the network grows. A huge disadvantage is the cost of wiring and connections.

FIDDI

Fiber-distributed data interface- an industry standard covering the transmission of data over fiber-optic links. Fiber optics allows data to flow at very high speeds (100Mbits/sec). High-speed data transmission and multiple uses of the fiber optic solution make give this setup and advantage. One disadvantage is cost and availability in some areas.

Wireless

A wireless LAN is one in which a mobile user can connect to a local area network through a wireless (radio) type connection. The IEEE 80.11 standard specifies the technologies for wireless LANs. An advantage of wireless networks is that they can be accessed virtually from anywhere. There is a price for this connectivity. Up front costs are higher than most other solutions. There is also a distance limitation of 150 feet. Security could be compromised as well.

The Struggle For Meaning

As both an educator and a therapist, Bruno Bettelheim has an in depth way of arguing the case of the importance of how a child's imagination is challenged in his critique, The Struggle for Meaning. He states, "Today, as in times past, the most important and also the most difficult task in raising a child is helping him to find meaning in life" (77). Children's books, in general, are not enough to satisfy a child's imagination; it is through folk and fairytales that children develop ideas and feelings of their own. He goes on to discuss how those general children's books take away from the child doing any kind of imagining on their own. Bettelheim has had much experience with abnormal children, where he has learned what great importance fairytales have on their lives. Children of all ages need to be able to gain confidence in them, as well as in the world surrounding them. They cannot learn what needs to be known through concrete natural lessons. Bettelheim suggests that fairytales do not sugarcoat any situations; rather, they give a simple life long lesson clearly and exact to the reader. With examples from the fairy tales, "Hansel and Gretel", "Snow White", and Rapunzel", Bettelheim conveys a message that certain themes or characters help children cope with real life situations they come across. We do not know exactly which tales will become successful to our child; however, we can try as many as needed to come across the one that the child responds to in a memorable way. One of the last points that Bettelheim makes is the importance of allowing the children to interpret fairytales for themselves. Adults telling children their meaning of any fairytale may "rob the child of an opportunity" (0) for them to make another interpretation. In conclusion, Bettelheim strongly feels that fairy and folktales "enrich the child's life" (1) and allow him or her to become imaginative and cope with what life puts in the palm of their hands.

I found myself shaking my head up and down to many of the statements that Bruno Bettelheim had to say as a result of having a fairly strong psychology background. However, there were some instances where I had a hard time accepting some of the statements he made. I completely agree that children need to learn on their own, on their own time, and in their own way. We, as adults and parents, do play an important role in the lives of our children because we must take the initiative to read as many folk and fairytales it takes to give the children an opportunity of choosing good versus evil. Bettelheim had a strong point to prove his discussion on fairytales that show both good and bad characters. I agree that children should be subject to these real life features that people possess, however, I feel that children should still continue to have their right of choice. It is a given that we expect our children to choose the good character to idolize; however, that is not always the case. As a result of him working in a concentration camp, with children having problems far heavier than those children in a public elementary school, he doesn't take into consideration what those other children might think of the version of "Cinderella" when they make the stepsisters blind by having doves poke out their eyes. Also, "Rapunzel" was accommodating to the young boy for instance, but I do not feel that every child should be put into this category. My point is that I do not feel, as a therapist and educator, that Bettelheim had enough proof to base his argument on the fact that all children need to have fairytales a part of their life to survive.

My final argument is that Bettelheim puts such a strong impact on fairytales. From an aspiring teacher point of view, if the solitary way children learn, grow, and mature were through fairytales, how would everyone survive? It is a known fact that all households do not read to their children daily. As a result of that, when it comes time to teach those children, where do we possibly begin? I agree that fairytales play a part in helping a child deal in life, however, I do not feel that by reading fairytales, they have some magical power that makes a child complete. Completely agreeing with Piaget, children learn through other people, but most importantly, through their own hands-on experiences. Putting such an emphasis on fairytales alone seems, to me, as over analyzing, but being a Freudian, we should expect nothing less. Reading this criticism opened my eyes as a future teacher to think more logically about what I have on my shelves for my students to read during their free time. My final thought is that as long as I abide by the censorship guidelines in my district, I feel children should be open to what the real world is full of good versus evil.

The Battle of the Somme begun on the morning of July 1st 116 after a week of heavy shell fire. The battle was being directed by Field Marshall Haig in the Somme, in France during WW1 or the Great War.

The battle lasted from July 1st to November 18th and was on of the bloodiest battles of the war, it resulted in the more deaths than ever before for the smallest gain. The battle took place to pressure the Germans into withdrawing men from Verdun, where the French were taking heavy losses and were under great pressure from the German attack. Due to the shape of the trenches attacking at the Somme heading Southeast would not only help relieve pressure from Verdun but also cut off a large area that had been taken by the Germans.

Haig planned troops along the trenches from Beaumont Hamel (North) to Fricourt (South), a stretch of trenches 1 miles long to attack the Germans lines and to take all the high grounds and towns that the Germans held.

The attack started with an 8 day, 4hr bombardment of the German lines, this attack was so loud it could be heard in England. The bombardment was aimed at killing and destroying all or as much of the German defences and troops as possible as well as destroying the barbed wire in no-mans land and creating small craters for British troops to use as shelters. Haig then expected the British forces to walk across no-mans lands with little or no resistance from the Germans and then easily capture the German trench and defences.

Do my essay on How accurate is it to describe Field Marshall Haig as the Butcher of the Somme? CHEAP !

However the battle was not as easy as that, firstly the German troops had dug deep caves and shelters up to 60ft underground so hardly any troops were killed by the British 8 day bombardment. Secondly the barbed wire that was in no-mans land had not been destroyed, simply just blown up into the air and then fell straight back down, even more tangled and dangerous.

So with barbed wire in no-mans land, an unaffected German army equipped with machine guns and in a high position made this battle seem impossible to win. But Haig was not apparent to these problems and thought nothing of machine guns. He said, "The machine gun is a much overrated weapon" and "The way to capture machine guns is by grit and determination". The battle went ahead as planned, the troops walked across no-mans land and were easily killed by the Germans. It was these attitudes to machine guns and his ignorance of the problems an the battlefield that sent 60,000 men to their deaths on the first day, and that gave Haig the nickname "the butcher of the Somme".

The battle went on through the summer and the British did capture most of the high ground held by the Germans but did not complete all their objectives it was then on a snow covered battle field that Haig called an halt to the attack. It was November 18th and over 1,50,000 deaths on both sides for a British gain of 6 miles. It was the fact that there were so many deaths for such little gain that gave Haig the title of "the butcher of the Somme".

However although there were so many deaths Haig had achieved what he had set out to do. He had captured the high ground that the Germans held and had lifted the pressure off Verdun. So was Haig successful in his plans?

Although Haig came under extreme criticism no one has given any other alternative methods. He had also achieved most of his objectives and eventually his tactics of wearing down the enemy did win the war.

In my opinion Haig does and does not deserve the title "the butcher of the Somme". Yes he did send thousands and thousands of men to their deaths but he achieved his objectives and won the war. I think Haig had the right idea about his plans, attacking at the Somme was the right thing to do but perhaps if he had paid more attention to the concerns of his troops and had done something about the machine guns and barbed wire the battle may have been more successful in the terms of losses.

So yes it probably is quite accurate to give Haig the title as "butcher of the Somme" but only if you know all the facts and reasons for it.

Thinking

Ideology is a way of thinking that reflect the social needs and political doctrines of an individual or group. There are many different people and different circumstances this results in a variety of different ways of thinking, values and beliefs. Our ideology grows with us from childhood.

From the moment you are born the family influence begins to impact your thought process. A child is like a sponge that absorbs ideas and beliefs. Beliefs are taught to a child in subtle ways such as just listening to the parents and their opinions from everything including politics, social problems, moral issues and even opinions about how others behave. It is within the family unit that a person learns their moral values. It is from their parents that a child is taught right and wrong. Often this is through religious training. Religious beliefs or the lack of religious beliefs has a great influence on a persons beliefs and values. In the early years a child looks to their parents as the final authority on any subject. Its not uncommon to overhear a child explain something as being absolutely true because their mommy or daddy said so.

As a child grows older they see the world through outside influences such as the school system, the media, and their peers. School is often a child first opportunity to think for themselves. They experiment with ideas and values of their own. School teaches children to use a critical thought process. One way where this is done is if a child is given an opinion in a debate and they must find reasons to defend a certain viewpoint. They are exposed to a wide variety of viewpoint and opinions. Another source of influence on values and beliefs is the media. Free speech guarantees the rights of anyone to express their opinions. Children begin to form new beliefs and ideas of their own, the family influence is still there, but just not as strong. Also, peers become a major influence on a young persons thinking. To express their newfound values a child will often go through a stage of rebellion where they reject a lot of their parents values. This doesnt mean that they have taken on a whole new belief system. It just means they are expanding the values, thinking, and belief system from the home with new ideas and thoughts.

Cheap Custom Essays on Thinking

The country where you are raised is one of the major influences on a persons values and thinking process. If you look at different countries political beliefs and economic systems and study the history its clear the impact that the country you live in has on a persons thinking values and beliefs. For example if you examine Canada and the United States and compare ideologies and then look at their history and how each country is similar and also different due to their historical past. Every country has a dominant ideology, but within it are many competing ideologies. For example Canadas political culture could be described as primarily liberal, but within that is a wide diversity of beliefs. In Canada the competing ideologies are conservatism and socialism. By comparison the United States ideology is very predominantly liberalism. Their historical backgrounds appear to have caused the differences.

Canada reflects the ideologies that were brought with the original settlers of French Canada and English Canada. These settlers brought ideologies with them that reflected their experiences in Europe. Over time these ideologies changed and adapted to the Canadian life. This resulted in a liberal ideology similar to the United States but certainly not identical. Canadians are more conservative in their traditions and politics. By comparison, United States early settlers were mostly liberal in their political beliefs. The American frontier was founded by individualistic and often lawless people who came to America to escape the European traditions. Many of the traditional British Loyalists rejected the American Revolution and came to Canada. The United States has stayed very liberal in their thinking. Liberalism is system that celebrates the individual and his liberty. This liberal ideology of individualism is a central part of the American national identity. The American version of Liberal ideology focuses solely on individual rights and freedoms. The Canadian liberal ideology centers on individual rights but it also allows more room for the collective rights of people as a group. A comparison of the Canadian ideology and the American ideology shows how our ancestors pass down their thinking and values and beliefs.

It seems that individuals adopt the thinking, values and beliefs of those around them. People learn their values from their families first. Later many other factors like the media, religious training, school system, and peers continue to influence a person's belief. Also of great importance is the country you live in. A countrys historical past is very influential in a persons beliefs and values. There many differing ideologies in a country but there is usually a predominate ideology, and its citizen tend to believe in its countries ideological superiority. Our thinking, values and beliefs are a mix of what we are taught and the country we live in. Finally, each persons experiences make their ideology unique.

 Aspects of my work that could be changed and the resultant positive impact on cash flow

Arising from the above The aspects for discussion have broadly been identified as follows

• Staff Costs to do the Project Development Role

• Quasi- zero based budgeting Moratorium

• Consultancy Costs

• Overheads

• Numerous and complex processes and requirements with regards the various funding streams

Staff Costs

As discussed earlier my role is agency based on a daily rate of £5.00 on costs incl.

This is the only agency role within the team and though it is NRF (Neighbourhood Renewal Fund) funded it is the only role that is not a permanent one or on a Hackney fixed term contract pay roll. On a personal basis this means more money in my pocket but from a business point this is not a prudent way to spend funds which have been allocated solely for crime and disorder reduction and ultimately social regeneration. The role is much needed within the Service Area and of course CST but at a cheaper cost. It is strongly suggested that the agency be dispensed with and the role made into a fixed term contract one like all the other specialist roles within the team. It is appreciated that project management is a new area of expertise within the Community Partnership division of which SCS and CST fall within, however since it is very pivotal to the delivery of strategically aligned projects a more cost effective arrangement needs to be made.

Most funds are allocated to projects with a typical two or three year duration. It follows therefore that there is a requirement for projects to be developed, evaluated and monitored if not anything, for the lifetime of the fund. The NRF Programme which funds the Project Development role and all the other specialist CST roles is a 5 year programme so there is in fact enough lee way to fund this role on a fixed term basis.

Overheads

The overheads aspect of the costs of working can only be changed on a CST level in terms of ensuring that good practices take place, e.g.

• Making any personal phone calls as brief as possible (already practiced)

• Avoiding long business phone calls to mobiles whenever possible by arranging to call back on a land line whenever possible.

• Keeping lights switched off during the day unless absolutely necessary for use

• Switching off lights and equipment at the end of the day (already practiced)

• Security locking the main CST office door and windows at the close of business to guard against burglary especially computer equipment theft which is very rife within the borough. This will have a positive impact to ensure cash flow is limited to one-off capital costs for equipment to be replaced or upgraded as a result of depreciation or technology improvements and not duplicated costs as a result of theft.

• Introduction of the sending out of quarterly notices by the Project Development Manager if project budgets are likely to be exceeded for that quarter so that project leads are aware of the overall financial standing of the team and begin to embark on cost reduction strategies. A similar exercise should be done in respect to under spends to alert project leads early enough to enable "creative ideas" to be formulated on how to dispose of the projected surplus thereby avoiding under spend or at least reducing it to the barest minimum.

CST already saves on other overheads by hiring out our meeting rooms to other teams for a nominal fee which is kept as petty cash.

In terms of travel for conferences, workshops, seminars and training, the following good practices are already observed

• Using hotels offering competitive discounts to local authorities

• Advance booking for maximum discount on rail fares where possible.

• Monthly reports regarding project performance and spend against budget.

Consultancy Costs

Reference has already been made earlier on how the vast amounts spent on consultancy costs. Most of our consultants are on a retainer basis so whether they carry out jobs for our team or not we pay retainer fees. These fees are on top of the hourly rates we pay for specific jobs they carry out.

On the whole the tasks are around crime and disorder data analysis scanning trends and patterns to make recommendations, mapping and information sharing. Crime is very high in Hackney and so it would be worth while investing in a full time Partnership Information (Crime) Analyst post. These are specialist roles and it should not be too difficult to have a bid approved by one of the funding streams. Full time salaries for these roles are highly competitive but with the huge amounts we pay to our consultants we could reduce this by at least 50% and still be at the top end of the market in terms of HR job grading. This would have a positive or favourable impact on our cash flow and we would have a more dedicated customised service.

Monster's Ball

Monster's ball really doesn't give much sound at all. Instead of depending on sound or tone music the movie express' the emotions of the characters by showing more face close ups and body movements. The viewer is made to sense and feel the emotion of the character just by the acting that is being done. For example when P. Diddy is being taken on his last walk, the camera in focused on him in front of the guards and it shows his sweaty face, enlarged eyes, and flaring nostrils representing fear. When a car hits Halle Berry's son, the movie shows a frantic woman in search of help for her son. She is crying in the rain, trying to help her son come back to this world. There is only an eerie background sound, nothing to loud to drown out the sound of the characters.

This film made a very dramatic impact on the viewer with only a couple special effects. In reality it wouldn't really considered a special effect. The scene in which P. Diddy is being electrocuted is the only scene that had any special effects. It was mostly sound, good lighting and a good actor. That was one of the primary special effects. Even though it was very simple and mostly likely cost effect for the budget of the movie, it brought out some fear, or sympathy from the viewer toward the character. Billy BodThorton has a son in the begging of the movie. After a confrontation between the both of them that altered the mood of the movie, the next scene that is showed is his son holding a gun and threatening to kill the father. But instead of killing the father, the son commits suicide by shooting himself in the chest.

Do my essay on Monster's Ball Review CHEAP !

Dialogue in the movie is well written and helped to also set the position of the movie and of the characters. P. Diddy and Halle Berry speak in a form of ebonics. Most likely to show a lack of education from those characters. Billy Bod, his son and father speak English better, but it still is a basic english. With the dialogue that was given to then the viewer could interpret them as one of two thing; they had some form of higher education but not too extensive, or it's a working class dialogue with out perfect structure. All of the dialogue had a southern accent to it.

Every single one of the characters was well formed in this movie. There are 6 main characters; Billy Bod Thornton as Hank, Halle Berry as Leticia, Heath Ledger as Sonny, Peter Boyle as Buck, Coronji Calhoun as Tyrell, and P. Diddy as Lawrence. Billy Bod is set up to be this emotionless monster at the begging of the movie, but as the movie progress' and many negative factors unfold in his life he learns to love. Halle is a sinlge mother struggling to provide for her son, working any kind of job. Her husband is on death row, so she is left with the burden of the house payments and trying to provide. Heath is Billy Bod's son, he is the mirror image of Billy Bod because he is caring, nice and a non-racist. Unlike his father, the only similarity that they have is their DNA and the job that they both have. Peter Boyle is a typical southern racist who the viewer comes to hate because of his simple-minded ideas and negative view on life. Coronji Calhoun is the son of Halle and P., he is a simple child just interested in his candy. But he is caught in an adult world because of the financial situation and the incarceration of his father. Finally P. Diddy is the man who is on death row. He is very calm and non-aggressive. His character is portrayed as a bit of an artisan because of his sketches that are shown throughout the movie.

The whole plot of the movie is actually very simple when you think of it. Billy Bod is trying to live in his father's image and is confused. He then has to execute an inmate who ends up being Halle's husband. After the death of his son and a non-violent confrontation with one of his neighbors his ideas begin to change. Then he meets Halle in a diner where she is substituting for the regular waitress because she need money to provide for her son since her husband is in jail. A car then hits Halle's son in the middle of the road. Billy Bod is then moved to help her. That's where a relationship begins to emerge, and where Billy Bod has new view on life. After spending more time together, Billy Bod then buys a gas station, names it Leticia, and he also puts his father in a nursing home. That is the begging of the new Billy. When Halle is evicted he is there to save her and bring her into his house. But before he did that, he painted his whole house to a white color instead of the dull depressing brown. Once they are living together Halle finds out that Billy is the one who executed her husband. But ironically she is now with the man who killed her husband, but did everything he could to save her son.

Risk Factors for Back Injuries

· Repetition The number of stressful back motions made per workday. Most back injuries are considered to be cumulative trauma injuries that are based on the person's overall history of risk factors.

· Force The weight of the load to be lifted, pushed, or pulled.

· Posture The degree to which the back's normal curves are "out of alignment" during lifting.

· Distance The horizontal distance of load from the body, the vertical distance to be lifted, and the distance to be moved.

How to Prevent Back Injuries

Before the Lift

ü Exercise. Keep yourself physically fit by developing a good exercise program appropriate for your age and overall health. Be sure to check with your health-care professional for advice on exercise programs.

ü Attend Back Injury Prevention classes provided by your EH&S Representative.

ü Check the area around the object first to be sure there is enough clearance and to make sure the intended walkway is clear of obstructions.

ü Check your alternatives. For difficult lifts or heavy lifts (e.g., greater than 50 pounds) always obtain help or use a material handling device.

ü Never lift objects overhead. This applies to moving objects from overhead locations and to overhead locations.

ü Never reach over another object to lift something.

During the Lift

ü Stance Take a balanced stance with the feet set about shoulder width and the knees bent, then cautiously test the weight of the object to get a feel for its overall weight and center-of-gravity. Don't assume that because something looks familiar that its weight and contents will be the same as another similar item. If it feels too bulky or too heavy, stop and obtain assistance.

ü Performing the Lift Grip the object firmly with both hands, take a breath, and then smoothly lift straight between the legs using the leg muscles for power. The idea is to keep the spine upright in its normal curve during the lift. This minimizes disc pressures and muscle imbalances. The abdominal muscles should also be tightened during the lift to assist with body stability.

ü Carrying and Lowering Keep the spine in its normal curve by standing straight and holding the load as close to your body as possible. This reduces the adverse leverage a load places against your spine.

ü Never twist the body while lifting.

ü Keep loads as close to the body as possible.

ü Pace yourself appropriately to avoid fatigue when doing manual work for long periods.

Pulling and Feeding Cable

Pulling and feeding cable are movements that installation employees perform frequently during their job. If not performed correctly, these movements may potentially result in back injury. The best technique for this movement is described below.

1. In this case, you first reach out with your left hand to prepare for a pull. Before pulling the cable from the reel, your center of gravity is above your left foot.

. The moment you pull the cable towards your right hip the center of gravity moves from your left foot toward the middle of both your feet.

. With your right hand you reach toward a co-worker on a ladder and at the same moment you move your center of gravity toward your left foot. This is to prevent falling toward your right. You also stretch out your left hand to grasp the next piece of cable. So you move both your arms at the same time to the
