There was once a king, a great and mighty warrior named Genghis Khan. When he led his armies out to war, he conquered many lands, so many that his empire sprawled from eastern Europe to the Sea of Japan.

One day, the king rode out into the woods to hunt. With him went his favorite hawk. The hawk would fly about in the air, circling. When the hawk's sharp eyes spotted some prey from the air, the bird would immediately scoop down for the attack.

It was a warm day, and by afternoon the king was hot and thirst. He started searching for a spring of water he had once seen in the woods. Finally he spotted a trickle of water dripping down the side of a rock, and he knew the spring must be above.

The water fell from the rock slowly, drop by drop. It was not much, but it was water, and the king was very thirsty. So the mighty Khan took out a small silver cup and held it under the dripping water. Ever so slowly, the cup began to fill.

Write my Essay on The hawk and the King for me

The king could hardly wait to feel the cool liquid wet his dry lips and tongue and throat. So, even before the little cup was quite full, Khan pulled it out from under the trickle of water and lifted it toward his lips. Suddenly, something swooped through the air and knocked the cup from the king's hand, spilling the precious water on the ground.

Startled, Genghis Khan looked up to see his pet hawk, flying from tree to tree and looking rather proud of himself. The king glared at the hawk, picked up the cup and began again to slowly fill the cup. This time, he let the cup fill only halfway before he lifted it to his mouth. The cup was just about to touch his lips he could almost taste the water when again the hawk swooped down from the air and knocked it from the king's hand.

By now, Khan was quite angry with his hawk. A third time he collected water in his cup and a third time the hawk kept him from drinking it.

The king turned red in the face from anger. He paced back and forth, glaring at his hawk which was perched on a nearby branch. In his fiercest voice, the mighty Genghis Khan bellowed, "How dare you spill my water!" He bent down to retrieve his cup and then said in a quite, but still furious voice, "If I could catch you, I would break your neck."

The mighty Genghis Khan bent to fill his cup again. But this time, the king drew his sword from the sheath at his side. "If you knock this cup from my hand again, hawk," the king said to his pet, "it will be the last thing you ever do!"

Sure enough, as the king brought the cup to his mouth, the hawk swooped down and knocked it out of his hand. But this time as the hawk passed, the king raised his sword, and with a well-timed flick of his blade, struck the bird in mid-flight. The hawk fell at the king's feet. With imploring eyes fixed on the king's face, it bled to death.

"It's what you deserve," said the king and stepped over the bird to find his silver cup. But the cup had fallen between two rocks and, try as he might, the king could not reach it.

"Well, then," thought the king, "I will follow this trickle of water up to the spring from which it comes. I still need something to drink."

So Genghis Khan began to climb and as he climbed, he became thirstier and thirstier. Finally, he found the pool of water. The king strode eagerly toward the pool, but at the water's edge he gasped and took a quick step back. Lying in the pool was a huge, dead, snake a snake whose venom would kill a man with the slightest taste.

The king stood very still. He was no longer thirsty. All he could think about was the dead hawk lying on the ground below.

"That bird saved my life," he said. "That bird was a true friend, and I have killed him."

The king went back down the hill, half running, half sliding. When he reached the bottom, he carefully picked up the dead hawk and gently placed it in his hunting bag. Then he rode slowly home.

Egyptian Religion

Religion was the center of life for Egyptians. Except for a period of about one hundred years, their religion was based on beliefs in many gods, polytheism. Some of the gods were connected with death and afterlife. There were gods who created and ruled over the world. Everything the Egyptians did was based on their religion. Many Egyptians built small shrines at their homes to worship their favorite gods. Before Egypt was united, every town and village worshipped its own gods. Egyptians worshipped as many as ,000 gods and goddesses. They identified their gods with animals. The gods had a person's body with an animals' head. All Egyptians worshiped the most important god, Ra the sun god, with consistency. Even the Egyptian pharaohs made offerings to the gods as part of their worship.

The Egyptians believed that the gods created the world. The ocean existed before anything else. The Sun god, Ra, came out of an egg and appeared on the surface of the water as the sun. The god An had children, Shu and Tefnut, who formed the atmosphere. Ra's child, Geb, formed the earth. The god Nut formed the sky.

The Egyptian 'Book of the Dead' contained hymns, prayers, and spells. The book described that the gods would weigh the dead person's heart to decide if the soul would go on to afterlife.

Write my Essay on Egyptian Religion for me

Egyptians spent a lot of time preparing for the afterlife. During life, the Egyptians would look forward to life after death. After death, the body would be prepared. First the priest recited prayers. Next, the body was washed and purified. The organs would then be removed and stored in canopic jars. The body would be packed in natron, a type of salt, for 40 days. After the forty days, the body would be filled with sawdust, resin, and natron. The body would be wrapped in bandages. Jewelry, amulets, and scarabs-good luck charms- were placed between the layers. A mask was put on the head by a chief embalmer who wore a jackal mask to represent the god Anubis. At last the mummy was put into a coffin. The coffin was made to look like a human. A face would be carved on the coffin that looked like the dead person. Spells and prayers were written on the inside of the coffin to protect the soul. The Egyptians believed this process would preserve the body for life after death.

The coffins were put into tombs. In the tombs, furniture, statues, games, food, and other everyday items were buried with the mummy. The priest would perform an 'opening of the mouth' ceremony. This ceremony gave the mummy the opportunity to eat, speak and have full use of the body in the afterlife. The tomb would then be sealed.

The Egyptians believed that their lives would continue after death. The burial ceremonies and customs prepared the soul for the afterlife. The Egyptians believed that the afterlife would be much like life when they were living. The Egyptians were buried with things that they enjoyed in life so that they could continue to have a good life after death. Some people were buried with clothes, games, pets, and statues. The wealthy Egyptians were buried with gold and jewels. Even the poor Egyptians would be buried with some of their favorite things. They wanted to be buried with the things they would need to enjoy the afterlife.

Religion played a very important role in ancient Egypt. From explaining how the world was created to a belief in life after death, religion was the central part of Egyptian life.

When I was five years old, my great-grandmother suffered from her fourth stroke. Since my parents consistently worked to support our family, I spent much of my youth with my grandparents and great-grandparents. For the rest of my life, I will never forget the time I spent with my great-grandmother, Theresa. After her last stroke I remember standing near her bedside and holding a pan under her chin as she suffered from illness. As she lay in her bed, I held her hand and prayed with her until she passed away. Since I was a child, I have been compelled to aid those in need. My compassionate spirit and inner strength inspire me to serve and extend my heart to others.

As I have grown older, my dedication and passion for others continues to shine through. I feel blessed because my mother is both my inspiration and my role model. She is a pediatric nurse who dedicates her life to helping sick children and their families. She often allows me to accompany her to the hospital and assist on her unit. Through these visits, my enthusiasm for nursing grew. One visit particularly stands out in my memory. I remember watching my mother rock a sick baby, suffering from RSV, to calm her cries. This event fostered my compassion to great levels because my mother was able to calm the baby and make her smile. As I watched my mother soothe this baby, I began to envision myself following in her footsteps. After that day, I knew that my true calling was nursing and I became determined to pursue my dream.

Since I take pleasure in assisting others, I have recently volunteered at a nursing home. On my very first day, I realized what an incredible experience it is to help the elderly. I was fortunate enough to have personal interaction with the residents because I assisted in the activity department. I led them in rosary, directed their exercise, called off bingo numbers, wheeled individuals around, assisted them in the bathroom, and talked personally with many people. One resident particularly touched my heart. Each time I visited the nursing home Virginia made me feel like I made a difference in her life. Many of the residents were not willing to open up to me, but Virginia shared many stories about her life with me. In addition to completing the tasks assigned to me by the coordinator, I also acquired knowledge far more rewarding through the interactions with the residents. Through this experience I learned the true value of responsibility and patience. The experience was truly gratifying because I was able to put smiles on the residents faces and become acquainted with them at a profound level. Since I found great pleasure in serving my community, I continue to visit the residents for their own and my own contentment and satisfaction.

Over the past eighteen years of my life, I have grown and developed intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally. Not only do I dedicate time to learning at school, I also attempt to understand and improve my persona on a daily basis. I believe that nursing is intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally stimulating. My sister just graduated from Loyola and speaks highly of the school because she believes that the school fostered both her intellect and spirit. I chose Loyola for this reason. Learning is more than just acquiring mathematical and scientific knowledge. To me, true knowledge requires an understanding of interactions with others. Therefore, I believe nursing is my true calling because it requires more than sheer brains. Nursing calls for compassion and dedication to the service of others.

Buy cheap Nursing term paper

Loyolas motto of knowledge in the service of others perfectly corresponds with my ambition in life. When I was a young child, I discovered the gratification of assisting others while supporting them in moments of despair. Throughout my life, I have dedicated time and heart to continue along this path. As I continue to grow at Loyola, I look forward to develop the skills that will help me serve others in the face of sickness.

The book I read is a biography on George W. Bush, written by John F. Wukovits. George made many contributions to society in his life. He wanted to do something different in business to prove himself. He sold his oil company in order to purchase the Texas Rangers baseball club. He enjoyed great success as president of the club. In 14 he turned his eye toward politics again. He entered the Texas governor race against the incumbent, Ann Richards. George ran on a platform of improving education. His campaign was successful as he was elected by a margin of 5,000 votes. He started the Texas Reading Initiative, a program devised to develop reading proficiency in every student by third grade. In 1 George decided to serve the people of this great nation by running for the office of President of the United States.

George was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 146. He attended the Phillips Academy in Andover, Maine as a high school student. During his time at Phillips, George was elected senior class president and captain of the baseball team. In 164, he began his studies at Yale University. He joined the same fraternity that his father belonged to, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and was elected president. After graduation he was faced with the decision to enlist in the military. Many of his classmates were opposed to the Vietnam War. George showed great courage and conviction by enlisting in the Texas Air National Guard.

The Air National Guard was the right place for a person with great physical attributes like George. His athletic background helped him to become a fighter pilot. His common sense and ambition overcame his low pilot aptitude test scores. The Guard chose George to be featured in their recruiting campaign.

There were several setbacks in addition to his achievements in life. His sister Robin died of leukemia when George was seven years old. He helped his family with this loss by providing humor during this tragic time. As a result he developed a stronger bond with his mother, Barbara. Later in life George had an alcohol problem. One evening he wrecked his car outside of his fathers house. His father challenged him to overcome his problem.

Cheap Custom Essays on George W. Bush

"Did I behave irresponsibly as a kid at times? Sure did," said George. He began working with youth groups in the Washington D.C. area to put focus into his life. A meeting with the Reverend Billy Graham was the turning point in his life in achieving sobriety. His new focus in life eventually led him to run for the office of President in 1.

The biography also stated many other interesting facts about George W. Bush. George Bush is of the Methodist faith. George was married to Laura Welch on November 5, 177. Laura Bush gave birth to their twin daughters Jenna and Barbara on November 5, 181. George like his father, a member of the Republican Party, was turned down for law school. In 181 his father became Vice President of the United States. In 188, George's father was elected President of the United States. George is the grandson of former United States Senator Prescott Bush. George's younger brother Jeb is the Florida sate governor. George Bush was the only governor of Texas to serve two four year terms.

In conclusion, this book was written to emphasize the contributions, accomplishments, and deeds that brought fame to George W. Bush. It also showed how he influenced modern life. I learned that President Bush has strong values. He is an accomplished man and I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about our forty-third President.

Bittersweet Steps in the Right Direction

"Down and out", "washed up", "down on your luck", and "in a slump" are all phrases that describe each of us at some point in our lives. Poor decisions bring about countless outcomes depending on the situation. Lack of studying may result in failure in school; the decision to smoke will result in declining health, and so on. Similarly, poor financial decisions can lead to the terrifying road of homelessness. An optimistic point of view would tell you that all problems can be resolved with time. A failing student may retake a course, a long time smoker may quit smoking, and a homeless person may get his/her life back on track by taking appropriate steps. Difficult decisions by communities and their leaders must be made to fix this ever-growing problem. But to help those who are "down on their luck" and those who associate with them we must be willing to pay a price. It is not always all the individual's fault either. Barbara Buehler of the NYC Department of Planning stated, "The only reason homelessness exists in a land so rich with natural resources is because a person's need for a home is seen as a means of someone else making profit." Through decisions made we can help our communities while also re-building the lives of those who have difficulties.

According to Homelessness Factfile, "Around one-third of single homeless people have an alcohol problem." This poses two immediate problems, one to the community and the other to the individuals themselves. Public drunkenness can sometimes lead to violence or other crimes, putting the individual and public at risk. The city proposes jail-time and the possibility of a $1,000 fine. Critics may view a monetary penalty as being redundant seeing as how most of the nation's homeless are without money. The lack of money cannot be reason to ignore a citizen's responsibility to take accountability for their actions. If money is not available, service must be provided until their debt is paid off. By doing this, we show that there are no exceptions to the law thus preventing more and more people from doing so.

In a recent debate in Asheville, North Carolina, city Councilwoman Holly Jones stated, "If you're a human being, you need to sleep somewhere and to urinate somewhere. We all know there's a problem downtown, but I want to support an ordinance that ensures that our most basic human needs are taken care of." Communities should be clean and clear of public urination and can do so by providing adequate facilities. If, however, people choose not to use these facilities swift action does need to take place. A community is based on those who working together. Nothing can and should be merely one-sided.

Alcohol, curfews, panhandling, and drugs are all coincide with this city's proposed ordinance to decrease the rate of homelessness. It is not the mere fact of getting rid of the problem, but rather solving the problem. Giving those who aren't as fortunate as the rest of society a way to get out and rejoin the world. This may be a slow and rigorous road to each of the individual homeless we're trying to help but as the great C.S. Lewis stated, "I do not think that all who choose wrong roads perish; but their rescue consists in being put back on the right road. A wrong sum can be put right but only by going back till you find the error and working it afresh from that point, never by simply going on… Time does not heal it." With this ordinance being placed into effect, two outcomes are desired for communities to be healed and also for those individuals who may just be "out on their luck."

Custom Essays on ugly man

An ugly man, that looked like a frog,(www.fbuch.com) or maybe a toad, that was married times. The last being a woman of great beauty! I dont think so, because she has the unabrow action going. This man was Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera was born in December 8th, 1886 in Guanajuato(Venezia). His parents were Diego and Maria Barrientos. He had a very vivid imagination and liked to play in the forest with his goat. At a very young age, Diego showed his love for art and drew on everything. He liked to draw inventions and mechanical parts of his toys that he would take apart. His father even had to cover the walls with canvas(Venezia). When he turned 10, officially declared that he wanted to become and artist, so he was enrolled part time in to San Carlos Art Academy in Mexico City(Venezia). Later he was enrolled full time. There he developed his art and got his art background of Spain, France, and Italy. His role model was Jose Posado who's drawings were so colorful that they would look like they would jump up and move about(Venezia). Because of Jose, Diego wanted to paint paintings of everyday life. When Diego turned 0, he moved to Europe and befriended many famous artists like Picasso. He had a kind of road trip picking up different styles here and there. This is where he saw a fresco which is painting on fresh plaster. He reintroduced the idea. When WWI began, Diego returned to Mexico because of his nationalistic pride in spite of being asked to follow a friend to Russia. In 1, Diego joined the revolutionary Union of Technical Workers and later the communist party(www.fbuch.com). His wife, Frida Kahlo who was also a painter, was very supportive of Diego, as she shared the same revolutionary feelings. In the 10s Diego made a series of trips to the United States, painting various murals, with his most famous Fresco being in Detroit. He also made cameo appearances in his own paintings. You will also notice that his frescos match the surroundings. His paintings were also very controversial. They had people having their backs to the viewers and that offended the people. When in 1 when was painting Man at the Crossroads, a portrait was destroyed of Lenin in the Soviet Union. After painting some more, Diego returned to Mexico. Diego wanted his paintings to express the past and give hope for the future. He also wanted all to enjoy his painting, that's why he started to paints frescos. The Frescos were about the working people. His best frescos were in Mexico City. They were painted on public buildings for everyone to see such as churches, schools, hospitals, hotels, and government buildings. He still painted the traditional way and liked to draw pictures of beautiful women. How he got women to pose for him is a mystery because he is a very ugly man. Being one of the best artists of the 0th century, Diego also liked politics and was considered a radical. He was a controversial figure because of these beliefs and his attacks on the church and clergy. He was especially interested in the politics and military of the Soviet Union. He was in the communist party of Mexico and had a voice that was heard in political meetings. He was a central force in the development in Mexico and he also brought forth the WPA. Diego was a man who never let anything stay unfinished and he always expressed himself no matter what other people said. He painted what he wanted, and he painted what he felt. His passion for art as well as his revolutionary cause for the development of his country stayed with him unto the very day he died, which is at the age of 70, in 157.
