I just sat there in the dark and empty parking lot with tears streaming down my hot face. My heart was shattered like a glass bottle dropped on a hard cement ground. I had always trusted Jeremy to be faithful.

As I sat there I began to cry harder as I peeled away. The only words that I managed to get out of my quivering mouth were, " I HATE YOU!" No matter how bad I wanted to believe what I said was true, I knew it wasn't.

As I walked into my house that night, tears still filling my eyes, my heart sank even deeper as I knew I had to tell my parents what had happened and admit to them that they were right about him all along. They sat there on my bed with me, assuring me it was going to be okay and that I didn't need a loser like him anyway. In my mind all I could do was question and ask myself what I did or didn't do? Why wasn't I good enough? What's wrong with me? That night I cried myself to sleep. I was lost and very confused. What was I going to do?

For many months after that, I had a few ups and many many downs with Jeremy. Throughout this difficult time I dated a lot of guys to try and fill the void but none of them seemed to compare to Jeremy. I was so madly in love with this monster and no one compared to him in my eyes until God sent me a angel from above.

Help with essay on "My Angel"

I had finally given up on guys completely, so me and a bunch of my girlfriends decided to have a girls night out and go to "Guitars and Cadillacs," a dance club in Omaha, and dance the night away.

As we walked into the club we noticed that there were only about fifteen people in the whole place. We decided to make the best of it though and have a good time anyway. As we were dancing, two Fremont guys, a couple of my friends knew, started break dancing on the dance floor and they were awesome! I couldn't help but check one of them out! As the night went on, they started to dance with us. Finally, during the last song, the really cute one I was eyeing all night, started to dance with me! I was so nervous my heart was racing! At the end of the song we somehow ended up holding hands and before he left he asked my for my phone number. I could barely get it out because I was so shocked he asked for it and I didn't think he even knew my name, but I finally managed to get the seven digits out. I didn't think he would call but I had a little hope left in my battered heart.

He finally called two days later and we've been inseparateable ever since. I am happier now then I have ever been and he has changed my outlook, not only on life but on myself as well. He has given me more confidence in myself and has made me realize I should never settle for less then the best. I know now that I deserve someone as great as him, who treats me not only with respect but shows me how much he really loves me everyday. He has given me love, hope, and most of all happiness.

We live with imperfect world. Sharing our path with others can be extremely challenging because some people can be very difficult to love, like or even be mildly concerned about.

I heard someone say, " I love my job, I just don't like dealing with the customers.

It's not difficult to be the perfect parent to the perfect child, or to be the perfect mate, to a perfect partner or to give our best service to the perfect customer.

But really is there such a thing as a perfect person.

Help with essay on Character

Can we impact the lives of someone that does not fit our mold of what a person should be like?

I was taught a great biblical principle by my parents as a youth (do unto other as you would have them do unto you). As we walk along the path with those we do like and those we don't-strive to impact the live of others in a positive way.

Well Edna how can I impact the life of someone else.

#1 RESPECT EACH OTHER'S DIFFERENCES

We are all different by design, and we waste a lot of time and energy trying to change others to be like us. Think about it, do you really want to live in a world

Where all the people are just like you? Besides if two people agree on everything, there is only need for one of them!

# CREATE COMMON GROUND

If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. The fact that someone does not agree with our point of view does not mean they are not worthy of our concern, respect or even love. Relationships are fragile and too valuable to throw away because of a difference or a disagreement. It's not worth winning the battle and losing the war. Let's do our best to create common ground.

# GIVE OTHERS FREEDOM TO FAIL

The greatest gift we can give someone is the freedom to fail. Remember, anyone will stay around when all is well. It takes a very special someone to hang in there when things get tough. Have you ever thought about the fact that every great hero had flaws and failures?

Michael Jordan the greatest in the history of basketball was cut from his high school basketball team and also failed at baseball.

Abraham Lincoln one of the greatest presidents in all history, but failed as a politician numerous times

Thomas Edison a great inventor failed many times in his attempt to invent the light bulb.

Stand in the gap for someone when they fail, encourage and restore them in honesty and in love.

Failure is not final.

In conclusion,

#4 WALK WITH CHARACTER AND CREDIBILITY

It is truly an awesome thing to know a person of impeccable character (moral or ethical strength). They are comfortable to be around because you trust them. They are honest; you can count on their word being truthful and encouraging. They are reliable; they let their yes be yes, and they don't make promises they can't keep and are committed in every aspect of their lives.

Lets build good character and credibility and impact the live of others in a positive way.

The subject my partner and I choose to examine was a male with brown hair and eyes, who was of average height and a bit heavyset. He was sitting up, not hunched over, but did not have great posture. He was wearing conservative clothing including a gray Yankees T-shirt, blue shorts with white stripes made of a light material, long socks, and New Balance sneakers. This young man wore glasses.

Based on my observations toward the beginning of the period, I deducted that this boy was somewhat bored and seemed a bit self-conscious. This is because he tended to stare into space. He had an arm up with his elbow on the table and his hand by his mouth, grinding his teeth and biting his nail. When he went up to get juice from the vending machine, he fidgeted with the bottom of his T-Shirt and on it a bit. When he got to the machine, he turned around and sat down again. This was around the time between noon and ten after twelve.

As the lunch period went on, he seemed as if he was trying to fit in with the people at his table. He was listening intently to conversations with people across from him and then would talk to them using exaggerated hand movements. He laughed often at this point and appeared to be having more fun. This story telling and laughing went on for about five minutes, making it about 115.

For the last five minutes of the period, he got fidgety once again. He fixed he shirt, scratched his head, and adjusted himself in his chair. He smiled a few more times at the people across from him and looked around. He seemed more anxious to leave and still unsure of himself at this point. The bell rang and he stood up, adjusted his clothing, and walked out, looking around and pulling on the bottom of his shirt.

Do my essay on Aurora Analysis CHEAP !

I found this exercise to be fairly simple to execute, because I could watch the subject without making it obvious that I was doing so. I enjoyed evaluating his actions afterwards, though I would have liked for our subject to be a bit more exciting. My partner and I did not have different observations. She picked up on several motions and gestures I missed and vice versa, but we evaluated his behavior and came up with very similar conclusions. If I were to interview this young man at a later time I would ask him questions such as Who do you sit with at lunch? Are these people close friends or merely acquaintances? How do you like school? The answers to these questions would give me insight to determine how he was truly feeling during that lunch period. This tool could help Aurora solve her dilemma in that a psychologist could utilize this tool to view her in her natural environment to better understand her dynamics and her ways of thinking. This could assist the psychologist in making an analysis of Aurora and her predicament and he or she could better help her to overcome this problem.

The environment, a place in which we live, and a cradle of all lives on earth, is the most precious gift that God created for the human kind. And health, a priceless possession of human life, and the one which we cannot live without, keeps us physically in good conditions. Since our health and the environment are closely beside us and so important to us, we can imagine how our lives would be if both of them were ruined. Yet we are now doing many things that destroy the beautiful environment, and as a result our health deteriorates.

The environment, which sustains human life, is a profound source of ill health for many of the worlds population. In the least developed countries, one in five children do not live to see their fifth birthday -- mostly because of avoidable environmental threats to health. Hundreds of millions of others, both children and adults, suffer ill health and disability that undermine their quality of life and hopes for the future. These environmental health threats include lack of clean food and water, sanitation, adequate housing, and protection from mosquitoes and other insect and animal disease vectors. The people often suffer from diseases such as malaria, typhoid and cholera. Even those curable diseases can cause many deaths in the undeveloped countries because they lack proper medical treatment and public hygiene.

However, not only the poor suffer, the habitants in developing and even rich countries have also become victims of environmental pollution. The improper treatment of chemicals and disposal of refuse, the burning of fossil fuels, the emission of poisonous gases and the overcrowding and stuffy air in urban areas are the major components of environment pollutions resultant from industrialization and modernization. This damages the organs of human and animals and the genetic formation of all living organisms and cause illnesses like cancers, respiratory sickness, weakening of human immune system, and the large amount of unusual deaths of plants and animals due to abnormal climatic changes such as the greenhouse effect.

Health and environment have a subtle correlation with each other. So if we want to be healthier, we have to contribute more on environmental protection. We have to maintain the balance of the ecosystem and lessen the production of waste materials. The government should implement careful plans for urban development, restrain the use of fossil fuels and hazardous chemicals, relieve congestion, and help the undeveloped areas to improve their sanitary system. We should also support recycling and keep our environment clean so as to create a healthy environment for ourselves as well as our descendents to live in, or else it will be too late.

The requirement for the church to preserve its powerful position was a major contributor the Salem witch hunts in The Crucible. In a time of growing unrest and discontent, people were becoming more unhappy with the church and its organization, shown through Parris and Putman's comments, "I an not blind; there a faction and a party." (Parris)… "Against him and all authority." (Putnam) (Page 5). The church took action to try and maintain its position of power over the people. The church, being the sole moral and political leader at the time, was able to exploit people's fear of the unknown by making statements about its position on the devil and acceptable behaviour without other authorities to contradict them. Therefore, if anything challenged the church's position on moral matters, This can be seen when Proctor manages to save Elizabeth's life, but still wants to testify against the accuracy of the trials. This shows how the church can manipulate others to get their own way.

The trials also made explicit the consequences of not following the church; the very fact that the trials were public shows this, but it is also shown in Proctors hanging. This shows that the church wanted him to be an example to others not to disobey the church's authority and would rather let him die than show leniency.

The exploitation of peoples fear contributed to the Salem witch-hunts by severely punishing those that did, allowing the church to maintain its control over the people.

Does Gun Control Save Lives?

James Q. Wilson's essay is not realistic because his outlook toward racial profiling, questionable statistics, and unrealistic proposals are too far fetched for this day in time. Gun control is a major topic among most Americans, and I do agree with what Wilson's view is. However, if an assailant is trying to jump you right now, which of the over 10,000 gun control laws presently in the judicial system in this country would you rely on to save your life?

Wilson may be right when he says "about one-sixth of the handguns used by serious criminals are purchased from a gun shop or pawnshop." Obviously most criminals will not register for their guns. Most criminals obtain their guns from the black market. For this reason, even if a firearm is recovered from a crime scene, it can not be tracked back to the criminal. Registering for guns serves no crime fighting purpose. It only makes life more difficult for gun owners who seek only to protect themselves and their families.

In paragraph three, Wilson thinks it's too dangerous for the average citizen to try and apprehend criminals and the police are there to protect us. Unfortunately, the reality today is the police will not be there when you need them. If you are attacked by a violent criminal, you will only have a few seconds to react. Even a police response of four or five minutes, will be too long.

Custom Essays on Does Gun Conrtol Save Lives?

In paragraph eleven, Wilson also writes "Handgun owners are more likely to shoot themselves or their loved ones than a criminal." I think he may be generalizing 'loved ones' with acquaintances. With the broad definition of "acquaintances" used by most police crime reports, most victims are indeed classified as knowing their attacker. However, what is not made clear is that acquaintance murder primarily includes drug buyers killing drug dealers, cabdrivers killed by first time customers, gang members killing other gang members, prostitutes killed by their clients, and so on. Typically, murders are not your average citizen. Murderers are overwhelmingly young males who have difficult times getting along with others. Furthermore, unfortunately, Wilson is correct when he lets his readers know that murder is excessively against blacks and by blacks.

If the police did a good job protecting us there would be no murders, no rapes, no assaults, no robberies or any other personal crimes. We would not need alarms in are cars, homes or offices. We would be able to walk and drive anywhere we wanted any time of day. But that is not the case.

It is clear that guns, when morally deployed, preserve civilization on both an individual and social scale. To ban guns would be to remove our last, and in many cases, only civilizing influence.

When asked whence they derive their pride in their country, the Japanese

people always commend its natural beauty, its law and order, and its

long history and traditions. Their lifestyle is close to my ideal. The

Japanese identity is rooted in Japanese culture.

Write my Essay on The country in which I want to live

When we use the word culture, we are usually referring to art,

entertainment, scholarship, and cultural artifacts such as the tea

ceremony, Noh theater, Kabuki, museums, art galleries, concerts,

lectures, festivals, and similar activities. Of course, all these fall

under the rubric of culture. If we take plants as an analogy, however,

this is equivalent to looking only at the flowers and ignoring the

leaves, stems, roots, soil, and other elements that support them.

Japanese culture is not simply a matter of the activities associated

with the flowers in our daily lives. It covers the behaviors, daily

creature comforts, values, and lifestyles of people born and bred in the

ethos of Japan.

Scholars define culture as lifestyle. Culture defined as lifestyle

means mode of living and way of life. Japanese culture really is a

generic expression of the way of life of each individual. In other

words, the age of culture values the mode of living and way of life of

each individual and enhances the quality of each individuals life. As

individuals improve their quality of life, they are actually raising the

level of culture as well.

In todays global society, interchange is evolving on an infinitely

larger scale than confrontation. If we bear this in mind, we realize

that we should not only respect the diversity of lifestyles around the

world but also accustom ourselves to enjoying it. The basic stance of

society in the process of entering an era in which it steadily opens up

to the outside is to develop a culture that attracts people with

different cultural backgrounds and shuns exclusion or coercion.

For that to happen, it is most important that the various strata of

society feel pride in their way of life. The Japanese mode of living

(lifestyle and natural beauty) impresses visitors of other nationalities

and cultures as beautiful and inspires their respect and mine too.

To repeat, culture is nothing less than the way of life of each

individual. The mode of living that constitutes the totality of these

ways of life acquires centripetal force by becoming something beautiful

and safe. Japan, according to my opinion is an appealing country with

the power to attract with its lifestyle, incredible culture and

traditions.

People and things have potential value that cannot be measured in

monetary terms. Finding this value and assimilating it into ones mode

of life to give it greater substance will make a country that provides

this an ideal one for me.

Shelleys Frankenstein the true villain/monster, the Creature or the Creator.

In the novel Frankenstein the author Mary Shelley depicts main characters the creature and the creator (Victor Frankenstein) the novel is one of pondering nature. I believe the true monster/ villain in Shelleys mind is Victor.

The word monster causes one to imagine a hideous or deformed creature that terrifies all in its path however the creature described more often then not behaves monstrously doing things which harm society and they do these things with out thinking or considering the thoughts and feelings of society. Therefore it is the behaviour rather then the looks that define a monster, thus leading to my conclusion Victor is the monster of the story he acted with no thought or consideration of neither how society would react nor how it would be affected.

He claimed to endeavour on the great task for a noble reason to defeat death yet obviously was doing it for a quite selfish reason victor himself states (page 41) life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first break through and pour a torrent of life into our dark world, a new species would bless me as their creator and source. this clearly depicts Victor as being the sole benefit of his discovery he wanted the acceptance and recognition by his fellow scientists of this great discovery this discovery lead to great disaster in the lives of many mainly victors, for the creature was lead to evil.

Custom Essays on Frankenstein

This evil stated in the paragraph above I believe is actually due to Victors actions victor was the creator of the creature therefore he was the parent, yet he rejected the babe at birth this feeling of rejection deeply hurt the maturing creature and stayed with him for life, yet over and over victor rejected the creature and was his biggest critic often calling it abhorrent and horrifying this lead the creature to harmful ways, because when it did these things it was given attention by victor. Victor created a sole creature knowing that it could never be like the rest of society yet he himself excluded it from any life it could have had peacefully with a family

Victor eventually succumbs to the creatures request for a partner yet then eventually rejects the creature once more by destroying its partner. Victor appears to have a wash of morality yet really he is scared of the outer ugliness of the creature rather then its good or evil shall I in cold blood set loose upon the earth a daemon (page 16) the daemon he refers to is the looks of the creature rather then the actions of his mind.

Over the centuries legend has dubbed the creature with the name Frankenstein and when asked who he is most will say a monster, surely legend has got it right the name goes with the title Victor Frankenstein - a monster in his own right, he had complete disregard for the morality of the issue and nothing but selfish reasons for his creation and all throughout the story his action were guided by his selfish reasoning. Surely Victor deserves the abrasive titles he so swiftly gives out to his son.

Two Personalities in My Last Duchess

The poem My Last Duchess is about a powerful Duke, and his

beautiful, flirtatious wife who has two different personalities, one

that was reality and the other was the lady in the painting. The poem begins

Do my essay on Two Personalities in My Last Duchess CHEAP !

and ends with him mourning the loss of his deceased Duchess, but from the

way that the mighty Duke speaks, he knows more about her death than he leads

us to believe. The Duke chooses his word very carefully, when he talks to

his friend about the painting of his wife. He only drops small hints, to his

friend about the death of his Duchess. Which leads me to believe that the

Duke killed his wife, or had someone to put her to her death.

As the Duke speaks of his Duchess, in the beginning, he sounds extremely

compassionate and caring towards her. The Duke had an absolute love for his

Duchess as most husbands and wives do. He sounded so proud of her and the

beauty that she posed almost like she was a trophy. Despite all of the

pride and excitement that he showed towards her, there was an element of

distrust that lingered inside of his mind.

The Duchess created the element of distrust that was bestowed into the

marriage. The Duke explained that his wife was extremely flirtatious and

easily impressed. The Duke said, Too easily impressed she liked whateer

she looked on, and her looks went everywhere. This line is telling about

the Duchess, as she was when she was alive. The Duke believes that his

Duchess is a cheat, and that she doesnt try to hide it either. A husband

can tell when his wife is interested in another man, cause she once looked

upon him in that way she is looking upon her new male interest. The Duchess

probably didnt know that her husband was watching her, while she was taking

interest to her lovers. She may have thought that she and her male interest at the time were alone,

cause not any woman, in that era would have been seen with another man

besides their husbands.

Given the fact that this poem dates back to the Duke and Duchess era, so

they lived in an old fashioned world. The Duke believes his wife is not

being faithful to him.

But back in this era you couldnt take her court, file for a divorce, or

even confront her other lovers. The royal family would kill their wives if

they were not being faithful or if they could not have a child.

To avoid these complications, the royal Duke killed his Duchess. It had to

be a hard decision to make, but back then it was probably more common.

Another common factor in this era was for men to have several wives. The

story ends with the Duke talking about a new wife in the soon to be future.

To live back in this day and time would have been frightening for a woman,

and especially if a Duke was interested in you. It would have been even more

terrifying, knowing that his wife had been murdered.

Both Marvell and Auden present different attitudes towards life in the poems 'A dialogue Between the Soul and Body' and 'Miss Gee'. These attitudes assert that the soul must resist temptation in the courtesy of the body. In doing this sacrifice Soul has achieved harmoniousness in the balance between Body and Soul. Also as in the case of Miss Gee these attitudes relay that no matter what the human mind may desire it will exist in this globe of time as it wishes.

The two authors explore these attitudes and ideas through the use of imagery including language, metaphor, simile etc. Different attitudes to life also contribute to the poems through the use of tone and rhyme.

Marvell uses a mixed dialogue of language and techniques. He uses these to express in 'A Dialogue between the Soul and Body' how Soul and Body were not meant for each other. Marvell explains how a Soul and Body don't fit, "So architects do square and hew", he also explains the feelings of each. Soul feels that living in a body is a trap, a dungeon and wishes to be released to the heavens, "Oh, who shall from this dungeon raise a soul enslaved so many ways". Body does not want to feel anything it just wants to be a body, "And warms and moves this needless frame, A fever could but do the same"

In 'A Dialogue between Soul and Body' Marvell has the use of rhetorical questions "Who shall me deliver whole, From bounds of this tyrannci soul".

Auden uses language and techniques a lot in his poem Miss Gee. He uses these to show his different attitudes toward life. Miss Gee is about an old lonely lady who is self-conscious about her body though in fact it becomes ironic, Miss Gee ending up dead on a table being dissected naked.

Auden has used persona in the opening paragraph "Let me tell you a little story". Auden also uses imagery and rhyme in the first paragraph to describe Miss Gee as no longer attractive, "Her lips were thin and small, She had narrow sloping shoulders and she had no bust at all".

Auden also gives the reader the impression of Miss Gee being eccentric, "She'd a purple mac for wet days, A green umbrella too to take".

During the whole poem Auden enforces Miss Gee's loneliness (she is very aware she is alone, "And said Does anyone care that I live in Clevedon Terrace on one hundred pounds a year".

Both the poems express different attitudes towards life. These attitudes are enforced in the poem 'A Dialogue between Soul and Body', means that not all things in life are made to fit and that to ensure our survival we must comprise and seize opportunities.

Auden expresses in his poem 'Miss Gee' how life can also be a waste and not to dwell on things that may not come. He shows this through the life of Miss Gee an Old lonely self-conscious lady who is isolated from the rest of the world. Miss Gee does not wish to reveal herself "With her clothes buttoned up to her neck", even on her death bed in a women's ward she is reluctant to reveal any skin, "Lay in the ward for women with the bedclothes right up to her neck".

Both authors express different perspectives on life in their poems.

I think that the few Acts that I read from ?Macbeth? are very sad and have a lot of suspense and conflict. That is why my ten songs highlight the already mentioned characteristics of the story.

Act I demonstrates the concepts of appearances versus reality it also has a lot of conflict, suspense, and mystery. In this Act Macbeth discovers his dark side, because he and Lady Macbeth are planning to kill the king so Macbeth can take his place. I think that Act I is the one that has more suspense because no body really knows if Macbeth is going to commit the crime. ?Alone, Macbeth begins to have second thoughts about his murderous plan.? This quote makes it even more mysterious for the reader, which is why I think that this Act has a lot of suspense. In my CD, I selected these two songs ?Suicide? and ?I do it for you.? to highlight the concept of evil.

Act II is a little sadder that Act I because Macbeth had the chance of not committing the murder but he did, he committed the murder, ?Suddenly a dazed and terrified Macbeth enters, carrying the bloody daggers that he used to murder Duncan.? and now he is feeling guiltiness. ?He imagines a voice that warns Macbeth shall sleep no more and is too afraid to return to the scene of the crime.? For these reasons, I selected these two songs. ?You got it bad? and ?I am walking away.?

Cheap Custom Essays on Analyzing Macbeth's Play

Act III has a lot of mystery and confusedness since the witches told Macbeth that Banquo?s sons would be kings. Macbeth persuades two murderers to kill Banquo and his son. Therefore, that shows that Macbeth is really an evil person. Because of that, I chose these two songs; ?I?ll go with you? and ?Addictive,? which reveal the evilness and the mysteries of this Act.

Act IV is one of the most interesting Acts because Macbeth meets with the three witches demanding them to tell him his future, the witches raise three apparitions. The first , an armed head, next a bloody child ,the third apparition tells him that he will never be defeated until the trees of Birnam Wood move toward his castle. After all this, Macbeth now feels confident, but at the end, everything will go bad. For this Act, I selected the following songs ?All my life? and ?Nothing,? which reveal all the mystery and anger of Macbeth.

Act V is one of the saddest Acts because all of the things that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth did to gain power are now all gone; now they are both dead. Lady Macbeth is starting to hallucinate ?Lady Macbeth appears to be washing imagined blood from her hands.? Macbeth is going crazy his soul has been stolen, he is killed internally.? While Macbeth prepares for battle, the doctor reports that he cannot cure Lady Macbeth, whose illness is mental, not physical.? his wife, Lady Macbeth, is now dead and he is all alone, then he discovers that Birnam Wood seems to be moving toward the castle, Macbeth is now fearing that the prophecies have deceived him. ?He decides to leave the castle to fight and die on the battlefield.? In my CD I chose there two songs to highlight the sadness of this Act ?I will always love you? and ?unbreak my heart.?

The Secret Sharer

"The Secret Sharer" by Joseph Conrad shows the struggle between the captain and a man that he thinks is his alter ego. The author shows this throughout the story by allowing the reader to see how much the captain believes he has in common with a man who has snuck aboard during the middle of the night.

The story starts out by informing the reader that this is the captain's first command on this ship. He does not know his ship or his crew very well. During the night, he takes aboard a man who is hanging from a ladder over the side of the ship. He invites the man onto the ship and gives him one of his own sleeping suits, which happens to be the right size. They begin to whisper about the circumstances in which the man has arrived; he then leads the man to his stateroom unannounced to his crew. In these beginning events of the story one starts to see that the captain does not want his crew to find out about his discovery.

During the first night aboard, the captain begins to really see himself in Leggett. One sees this when the captain is thinking to himself, "I gazed upon my other self for a while before drawing across carefully the two green curtains…" He later goes on to think, "…trying to clear my mind of the confused sensation of being in two places at once."

Write my Essay on the secret sharer

One can tell that the captain does not trust his crew with his discovery of the stowaway. He shows this by hiding Leggett in the bathroom when the steward goes to clean his stateroom. One also sees this when the captain sits down to breakfast and thinks "I was constantly watching myself, my secret self, as dependent on my actions as my own personality sleeping in that bed, behind that door which faced me as I sat at the head of the table."

Latter one sees that the captain questions the reality of his secret sharer in his stateroom. The steward goes to hang up the captain's coat in his stateroom and does not discover Leggett. "I asked myself, that he is not visible to other eyes than mine?" The captain thinks to himself.

Towards the end of the story when the captain decides to help Leggett get off the ship and swim to land, he is worried about what he is doing, "I wondered what my double there in the sail locker thought of this commotion." He also goes on to think, "…my second self was making now ready to slip out and lower himself overboard." During this time the captain is coming dangerously close to shore. One now sees that Leggett is also thinking of the captain by letting go of a hat, given him by the captain to protect him from the sun, to help the captain find the right current.

One sees thought out this story how a captain with new ship and a new crew was able to bond with a stowaway. He saw this stowaway, Leggett, as himself at a younger age. One also sees the captain as someone who wanted to save Leggett and not turn him in to his former captain. He in turn helped him get to land, almost running his ship aground trying to get closer, and start a new life for himself.

What effects the resistance of a wire?

We are going to conduct an experiment to find out the resistance of a wire by changing some variables.

These include

Length of wire

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Resistance of a wire

Material used for wire

Gauge of wire

While we conduct the experiment to find out which if any of these variables affects the resistance of wire, we will have to keep some things the same to make the tests valid. The things we wont differ will be, the same equipment (because some of the power packs may give out more voltage than another), the current which will be 0.5A (to stop the wire heating and therefore the resistance would change), and for the same reason we wont change the temperature.

Once the experiment is set up it will look like this.

Prediction

I predict that the longer i make the piece of wire, the higher the resistance will be, because the free electrons will have more metal ions to collide with, so less of them will diffuse at the end of the wire.

I think the wire will heat up if we do it at to high a current so we are going to keep it at 0.5A thus keeping the tests fair and allowing us to proceed with the experiment.

Which Variable will we change?

We have decided to change the length of wire as this is a continuous variable and will give us the most accurate result over any other variable.

Step-by-step method

1. To begin with, i will set up my apparatus for the experiment as shown on the first page

. I will then get my results table ready for being filled in, which will include voltage, current, length and resistance.

. I will keep the current at 0.5A by using the variable resistor already in the circuit to make sure the test stays fair. If i didnt then the wire would heat up causing the resistance to be greater or less.

4. I will carry out the experiment three times per length to make sure there are no anomalies.

5. Each time we do experiment we will increase the length of the wire by 10cm begining at 10cm and continuing up to the length of 100cm. As i increase the length of wire the resistance will also rise. I can figure out the resistance by using the formula W=V/I and make a note of it in my results.

Results

Table

I made an average of our three results to make it easier to plot on the graph. there was only one anomaly which was in the form of 0.8 in the very first test at 10cm, i discarded this from the average.

Analysis

My prediction of the longer the wire got the more resistance there is was correct. You can clearly see on the graph that for every 10cms longer the wire got there was 5W more resistance.

Conclusion

The resistance increased as the length of wire was increased is because there was a great amount of metal ions for the electrons to collide with, making it more if a struggle for the free electrons to diffuse, creating more resistance. This was just what i predicted, and because i kept the temperature and the current the same it cause my graph to look like this

However, i didnt think before hand about the affect of the free electrons hitting each other causing the resistance to rise still. Although this wasnt of big significance it still effected my results.

Choose TWO or more poems by one poet you admire, and with close reference to the poems write an essay to justify your choice.

One poet I admire is James K. Baxter, because this New Zealand poet deals with the issues of the society he lived in, using various techniques to reiterate these themes. Baxter published more than 0 books of poetry before his death in 17, and he opposed Western materialism, and advocated social change and the spiritual values Catholic faith and Maori culture. These views are prominent in two of Baxter's poems, He Waiata mo Te Kare and The Ballad of Calvary Street. Also, in these poems there is constant reference to the lifestyles and cultures of New Zealanders. The Ballad of Calvary Street deals with the ugliness which he saw as being present behind the 'decent' façade of middle-class New Zealand life, while He Waiata mo Te Kare is a 'love letter' to his wife.

One important theme that Baxter dealt with during the 150's and 160's was the façade of the New Zealand middle-class. The Ballad of Calvary Street is one of his clearest expressions of this theme. Baxter extensively uses religious references to emphasise the barren lives of the old couple. This shows that the poem was written at a time when Baxter had converted to the Catholic religion. These references are shown in the title. Calvary was the place where Christ suffered and was put to death. It's a comparison with the last four lines of the poem. Also a comparison with line four, where the old couple's house is "an empty tomb", the Calvary Street seems unlikely to be the source of any hope.

Baxter uses many figurative devices to emphasise his feelings and views. In He Waiata mo Te Kare, Baxter uses many similes such as "With skins like fine leather" to enhance the readers vision of his wife. To appeal to this vision, Baxter also includes literal images like "…my hands were blistered". These create a rhythm which in turn creates unity like that of his relationship with his wife even though they were no longer living together,

Help with essay on James K Baxter

In both poems Baxter draws attention to the social setting of New Zealand. He makes us aware of culture, religion and stereotypes. Baxter makes us aware of his cultural linkage with strong Maori phrases including "Taku ngakau ki a koe!" This translates in english to 'my heart to you' and again, show his Maori wife how much he loves her.

In Ballad of Calvary Street Baxter brings in symbols throughout his poems to show how unforgiving and resigned the relationship between the man and the woman is.

"And that affair with Mrs Flynn

(It happened thirty years ago)"

Baxter describes how the relationship is 'going through the motions' and the couple live in a sad isolation. The man's 'territory' is the toilet and the woman's the kitchen, as they seem to live very separate lives to one and other.

I admire Baxter and his poetry as it has made me aware of both social and economic issues, not only in New Zealand but also around the world. In Ballad of Calvary Street and He Waiata mo Te Kare Baxter asks questions that are rarely answered, which in turn leaves the reader to try and interpret. The techniques he uses and the way he approaches the subject in a cynical manner highlight these themes to an even larger extent.

Divine Wind - racism

Written by bilwani

The Divine Wind describes an Australia that is tarnished by racism, hatred and distrust, and yet the novel ends on an optimistic note. Do you agree?

The novel is set during a World War. The tension and separation of races during a war seemed evident in Australia. As a multicultural country including Japanese and Aborigine population, conflicting attitudes towards these races had to be imminent. I entirely agree with the above statement due to the unequal treatment of the aborigines, tension between the Japanese population and characters such as Hart showing lack of trust over his lover Mitsy

Buy custom Divine wind term paper

With a war against the Japanese was the trigger for racism in Australia. All throughout the novel elements of separation are presented. The Japanese are somewhat divided from white Australians. First of all Broome has a "Register of Aliens? this was a register or list that kept track of foreign people. This implied that foreigners were seen as aliens and that they didn't really belong in Australia. The Sennosukes?names had to be changed because their original names seemed "…too foreign to our ears.?The Japanese living area is Chinatown shows the reader that perhaps whites have put the Japanese into their own little area. Chinatown contains houses that are far smaller and in general with little fortunes unlike the white Australians. It is the broad attitude towards the Japanese that creates a war and endlessly kills Alice.

Aborigines are treated unequally and are downgraded in Broome. The jobs of aborigines are in majority dirty (cleaning jobs), they work for the whites. Also when Mr. Killian is talking about purity at the dinner, he declares that black workers will do all the work while 'we?(whites) sit inside. Aborigines do not even get equal opportunity, an example is when Derby's interview with the officer is forged and consequently Carl Venning simply lets Derby to fight his case without any support. Aborigines have been replaced with stereotypes and generalisations from the Broome community especially all aborigines being alcoholics and inferior. Racism has the significance in the future of Broome in that it will become extremely hard to reverse.

Hart's lack of trust for characters in the novel such as Mitsy and Jamie are just some signs of Disher showing an Australia that is tarnished from distrust. Mitsy and Hart are close friends and at one time lovers. Nevertheless, Hart still has thoughts about Mitsy secretly seeing Jamie. Hart asks Jamie, "What's going on between you and Mitsy.?Some might argue that Hart is only caring about his love but when Hart secretly follows Mitsy around town the reader recognises Hart's personality of distrust. Another aspect of distrust is from the white community concerning over aborigines of Broome Your Abo is unreliable... Hell collaborate. Hell guide the Japs? Since whites know that they are separate and unpleasant to other races, they fear the aborigines will help the Japanese in their desire to takeover Broome.

Although the novel ends on an optimistic note, the future for Broome doesn't seem promising. With racial tension and war momentarily easing, it is foreseeable in the future to begin once more. The condition of Australia at that time took Alice's life and disadvantaged all races by preventing social harmony.

Ignorance is bliss a simple, yet brilliant phrase commonly overlooked in today's society. Is ignorance really bliss? In the plays Gross Indecency The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, by Moises Kaufman, and Wit, by Margaret Edson, show how this saying can and cannot be true. Kaufman uses the brilliant mind of an artist to show how his ignorance due to his superior intellect subsequently leads to his destruction, while Edson uses the character of a brilliant English professor dying of cancer to show how her above-average knowledge of the world leads to an exaggerated mental struggle before her death.

Gross Indecency uses the character of Oscar Wilde to show how his unique and brilliant understanding of human interaction leads to the destruction of his life as an artist and as an important pillar of society. Wilde falls under public scrutiny when he is tried for the crimes of gross indecency with young male members of the English society. The public views these relationships very literally, and begins to label Oscar as a homosexual; to him a term suiting to a lab rat. However, Oscar does not see himself in the same light. He views his relationships as beautiful works of art and reflects his feelings in several of his publications. Wilde's ignorance about the crimes he was committing leaves him vulnerable to the prosecution because in his eyes, he cannot defend himself against a crime he feels he did not commit, thus he is slaughtered in court because he fails to see the seriousness of the accusations placed upon him. In his case, his ignorance of the laws of England led to his destruction. For him, ignorance turned out to be deadly.

Edson shows the exact opposite of Wilde's case in her examination of the last portion of the life of Doctor Vivian Bearing, a brilliant professor whose understanding of the world around her is anything but ignorant. She has spent her entire life looking at everything around her in an overly literal light. Because she is able to bring the metaphysical down to the level of physical through thorough analysis, she is capable of understanding everything around her. This incredible understanding, however, turns against her in the final stages of her life. When she is in the hospital undergoing cancer treatment, she has a much better understanding about her physical and mental condition than would regular person due to her increased ability to understand the technical jargon of Dr. Kelekian and Jason. Because she is aware that her condition is leading to imminent death, she relinquishes any hope of recovery and maintains this negative attitude until her death. Had she been ignorant to the seriousness of her condition, she would have believed that she actually had a chance of survival when told so by the doctors. This positive attitude could have had a placebo effect on her and actually might have bettered her condition. I this case, her ignorance would have been bliss. However, Vivian is anything but ignorant, which destroys any hope for her survival because of her overly negative attitude.

We see here that ignorance can be either detrimental or beneficial, thus the question of ignorance being bliss remains unanswered. One must judge for oneself whether ignorance in one's specific case would be bliss, because it could go either way depending on the individual circumstances of the situation.

Sigmund Freud Interpretation of Dreams

The journal article, "The interpretation of dreams [100]," by Leonardo Rodriguez, summarizes the works of Sigmund Freud in his book The Interpretation of Dreams. The author of the article looks to the book, by Freud, as a literary work of merit, and one of Freud's most appraised studies. In his book, Freud explores the battle between the unconscious and the conscious mind. The entirety of interpreting dreams focuses on the dreamer himself, the unconscious mind, and a framework of rules.

In the book Freud discloses that the secret of dreams are discovered through the dreamer himself. When reading the article, an analogy from highschool came into mind, based on this research done by Sigmund Freud. Each individual is an iceberg in the ocean, floating at great lengths, and in great masses. However, each iceberg needs to be examined separately upon approaching, because not one is similar. The same goes for the individual when analyzing a dream. Without the dreamer, no analysis of the dream is possible, "Thus, the dreamer becomes an analysand, that is to say, the subject, rather then the object, of analytic interpretation; and as a subject, the dreamer is subjected to the unconscious"(Australian & New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry p7). This is one of the great points in the article that leads to the study of the unconscious mind.

The book also clearly examines the research of the unconscious mind. Here again we see the analogy of the icebergs. The top of the iceberg is visible, and although just a small portion of the iceberg it is still apparent, this represents the conscious mind. The bottom of the iceberg is much more massive, and stretches on for miles, unknown to plain sight; this symbolizes the unconscious mind. In other words, it is saying that, "…the dream is not the unconscious. It is a privileged path of access to the unconscious"(p7). Dreams are merely a smooth, paved road to the understanding of the movement of the mind.

Order College Papers on Sigmund Freud, Interpretation of Dreams

Finally, in order to fully understand the dream, one must reveal the framework of rules of the "dream-work." "The interpretation of the dream demonstrates that the desire that divides that subject, the unconscious desire, is forever unfulfilled and does not cease operating once the subject has woken up"(p7). Freud is saying that, dreams are the unconscious desire and people awake from their dreams attempting to fulfill these desires. When trying to fulfill the dream while awake, its called reality, when asleep it is fiction. An individual needs a true encounter with the real, before he/she can truly be awake. This is the psychoanalytic encountering that Freud creates in his book.

Through the writings of Freud, the exploration of the conscious and unconscious is challenged in each of us. The interpreting of dreams focuses on the dreamer himself, the unconscious mind, and a framework of rules, through these demonstrations we are able to shed light on the methods of Freud. Freud as the subject-matter of his own book allows us to get an inside look at his own life and the details that made it what it was, a gift to the scientific world. He was the dreamer, the subject of the unconscious, and the analysand; a true testament to is work.

Egyptian Religion

Religion was the center of life for Egyptians. Except for a period of about one hundred years, their religion was based on beliefs in many gods, polytheism. Some of the gods were connected with death and afterlife. There were gods who created and ruled over the world. Everything the Egyptians did was based on their religion. Many Egyptians built small shrines at their homes to worship their favorite gods. Before Egypt was united, every town and village worshipped its own gods. Egyptians worshipped as many as ,000 gods and goddesses. They identified their gods with animals. The gods had a person's body with an animals' head. All Egyptians worshiped the most important god, Ra the sun god, with consistency. Even the Egyptian pharaohs made offerings to the gods as part of their worship.

The Egyptians believed that the gods created the world. The ocean existed before anything else. The Sun god, Ra, came out of an egg and appeared on the surface of the water as the sun. The god An had children, Shu and Tefnut, who formed the atmosphere. Ra's child, Geb, formed the earth. The god Nut formed the sky.

The Egyptian 'Book of the Dead' contained hymns, prayers, and spells. The book described that the gods would weigh the dead person's heart to decide if the soul would go on to afterlife.

Egyptians spent a lot of time preparing for the afterlife. During life, the Egyptians would look forward to life after death. After death, the body would be prepared. First the priest recited prayers. Next, the body was washed and purified. The organs would then be removed and stored in canopic jars. The body would be packed in natron, a type of salt, for 40 days. After the forty days, the body would be filled with sawdust, resin, and natron. The body would be wrapped in bandages. Jewelry, amulets, and scarabs-good luck charms- were placed between the layers. A mask was put on the head by a chief embalmer who wore a jackal mask to represent the god Anubis. At last the mummy was put into a coffin. The coffin was made to look like a human. A face would be carved on the coffin that looked like the dead person. Spells and prayers were written on the inside of the coffin to protect the soul. The Egyptians believed this process would preserve the body for life after death.

The coffins were put into tombs. In the tombs, furniture, statues, games, food, and other everyday items were buried with the mummy. The priest would perform an 'opening of the mouth' ceremony. This ceremony gave the mummy the opportunity to eat, speak and have full use of the body in the afterlife. The tomb would then be sealed.

The Egyptians believed that their lives would continue after death. The burial ceremonies and customs prepared the soul for the afterlife. The Egyptians believed that the afterlife would be much like life when they were living. The Egyptians were buried with things that they enjoyed in life so that they could continue to have a good life after death. Some people were buried with clothes, games, pets, and statues. The wealthy Egyptians were buried with gold and jewels. Even the poor Egyptians would be buried with some of their favorite things. They wanted to be buried with the things they would need to enjoy the afterlife.

Religion played a very important role in ancient Egypt. From explaining how the world was created to a belief in life after death, religion was the central part of Egyptian life.

The book I read is a biography on George W. Bush, written by John F. Wukovits. George made many contributions to society in his life. He wanted to do something different in business to prove himself. He sold his oil company in order to purchase the Texas Rangers baseball club. He enjoyed great success as president of the club. In 14 he turned his eye toward politics again. He entered the Texas governor race against the incumbent, Ann Richards. George ran on a platform of improving education. His campaign was successful as he was elected by a margin of 5,000 votes. He started the Texas Reading Initiative, a program devised to develop reading proficiency in every student by third grade. In 1 George decided to serve the people of this great nation by running for the office of President of the United States.

George was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 6, 146. He attended the Phillips Academy in Andover, Maine as a high school student. During his time at Phillips, George was elected senior class president and captain of the baseball team. In 164, he began his studies at Yale University. He joined the same fraternity that his father belonged to, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and was elected president. After graduation he was faced with the decision to enlist in the military. Many of his classmates were opposed to the Vietnam War. George showed great courage and conviction by enlisting in the Texas Air National Guard.

The Air National Guard was the right place for a person with great physical attributes like George. His athletic background helped him to become a fighter pilot. His common sense and ambition overcame his low pilot aptitude test scores. The Guard chose George to be featured in their recruiting campaign.

There were several setbacks in addition to his achievements in life. His sister Robin died of leukemia when George was seven years old. He helped his family with this loss by providing humor during this tragic time. As a result he developed a stronger bond with his mother, Barbara. Later in life George had an alcohol problem. One evening he wrecked his car outside of his fathers house. His father challenged him to overcome his problem.

"Did I behave irresponsibly as a kid at times? Sure did," said George. He began working with youth groups in the Washington D.C. area to put focus into his life. A meeting with the Reverend Billy Graham was the turning point in his life in achieving sobriety. His new focus in life eventually led him to run for the office of President in 1.

The biography also stated many other interesting facts about George W. Bush. George Bush is of the Methodist faith. George was married to Laura Welch on November 5, 177. Laura Bush gave birth to their twin daughters Jenna and Barbara on November 5, 181. George like his father, a member of the Republican Party, was turned down for law school. In 181 his father became Vice President of the United States. In 188, George's father was elected President of the United States. George is the grandson of former United States Senator Prescott Bush. George's younger brother Jeb is the Florida sate governor. George Bush was the only governor of Texas to serve two four year terms.

In conclusion, this book was written to emphasize the contributions, accomplishments, and deeds that brought fame to George W. Bush. It also showed how he influenced modern life. I learned that President Bush has strong values. He is an accomplished man and I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to know more about our forty-third President.

An ugly man, that looked like a frog,(www.fbuch.com) or maybe a toad, that was married times. The last being a woman of great beauty! I dont think so, because she has the unabrow action going. This man was Diego Rivera. Diego Rivera was born in December 8th, 1886 in Guanajuato(Venezia). His parents were Diego and Maria Barrientos. He had a very vivid imagination and liked to play in the forest with his goat. At a very young age, Diego showed his love for art and drew on everything. He liked to draw inventions and mechanical parts of his toys that he would take apart. His father even had to cover the walls with canvas(Venezia). When he turned 10, officially declared that he wanted to become and artist, so he was enrolled part time in to San Carlos Art Academy in Mexico City(Venezia). Later he was enrolled full time. There he developed his art and got his art background of Spain, France, and Italy. His role model was Jose Posado who's drawings were so colorful that they would look like they would jump up and move about(Venezia). Because of Jose, Diego wanted to paint paintings of everyday life. When Diego turned 0, he moved to Europe and befriended many famous artists like Picasso. He had a kind of road trip picking up different styles here and there. This is where he saw a fresco which is painting on fresh plaster. He reintroduced the idea. When WWI began, Diego returned to Mexico because of his nationalistic pride in spite of being asked to follow a friend to Russia. In 1, Diego joined the revolutionary Union of Technical Workers and later the communist party(www.fbuch.com). His wife, Frida Kahlo who was also a painter, was very supportive of Diego, as she shared the same revolutionary feelings. In the 10s Diego made a series of trips to the United States, painting various murals, with his most famous Fresco being in Detroit. He also made cameo appearances in his own paintings. You will also notice that his frescos match the surroundings. His paintings were also very controversial. They had people having their backs to the viewers and that offended the people. When in 1 when was painting Man at the Crossroads, a portrait was destroyed of Lenin in the Soviet Union. After painting some more, Diego returned to Mexico. Diego wanted his paintings to express the past and give hope for the future. He also wanted all to enjoy his painting, that's why he started to paints frescos. The Frescos were about the working people. His best frescos were in Mexico City. They were painted on public buildings for everyone to see such as churches, schools, hospitals, hotels, and government buildings. He still painted the traditional way and liked to draw pictures of beautiful women. How he got women to pose for him is a mystery because he is a very ugly man. Being one of the best artists of the 0th century, Diego also liked politics and was considered a radical. He was a controversial figure because of these beliefs and his attacks on the church and clergy. He was especially interested in the politics and military of the Soviet Union. He was in the communist party of Mexico and had a voice that was heard in political meetings. He was a central force in the development in Mexico and he also brought forth the WPA. Diego was a man who never let anything stay unfinished and he always expressed himself no matter what other people said. He painted what he wanted, and he painted what he felt. His passion for art as well as his revolutionary cause for the development of his country stayed with him unto the very day he died, which is at the age of 70, in 157.
